I don’t know any custom builder with a household name who didn’t deserve the recognition of our industry. But I know a lot of custom builders, professionals or amateurs, who deserve more recognition than the one they acquired locally or among a circle of friends. In Alberta, Canada, there is a professional builder named Miles Brown (a.k.a Smiley) with 35 years of experience who just produced one of the best Bobbers I have had the opportunity to see this year. Everything making a motorcycle a Bobber is right there: single loop frame, Knucklehead engine, circa 1950’s Superior pipes, 4-speed tranny with jockey shift, Coker tires, VL style Springer front end, mechanical brakes, 50’s spark plug wires, etc and some brass to add a lot of class. The good thing is that if you are a biker appreciating old school craftmanship, Smiley will accept to make one for you. He will even let you decide some options.
