This evening in Sturgis is the VIP Industry party organized by the AMD World Championship Of Bike Building and of course the first opportunity for all professionals present in South Dakota to discover and admire all the new competing machines.
From my point of view most are going to deserve to be featured in my Blog, but since I have to start somewhere, the first one I introduce you to in exclusivity is the new entry of Fred Bertrand Krugger. This custom was ordered to him by Peer Toftner of Veon Motorcycles with the idea o building a machine that you could transform from cruiser to racer at the push of a button. In 5 seconds to be precise! At the red light or supposedly on the fly (just be careful.)
A company called DBBP was also a partner to CAD design and engineer the required adjustable frame of this very unusual radical project. The Veon adjustability and functionality is unique in that it alters a the same time several vehicle geometry parameters, all corresponding to the range of configurations from the classic custom cruiser mode with its upright/classic/touring position, to the aggressive sport/racing posture. The rider can transform the bike from a low-seat/feet-forward/cruiser configuration, to a high-seat/feet-aft/sport-racing configuration, as well as any intermediate configuration. The transition may be activated at stand-still or in-flight. Two sets of foot pegs (front and aft) give the rider the necessary options to control the motorcycle at any setting. If one machine needs a demonstration of its “flexibility”, it’s this one. No problem for a stand still demo inside the Champions Park where all the bikes are displayed for 3 days. But of course, you and me want to see the metamorphosis from cruiser to racer while the bike is being ridden. Hey, I think that Fred Krugger has already some video clip in preparation. saw this bike in build at his shop back in march. even then, not fully completed, it was amazing to se how it all worked and was designed. im sorry i wont make it to sturgis to see the finished product. hopefully ill get to see it soon.

I know Curt Winter (http://btrmoto.com/) and Gregg DesJardins (http://www.greggscustoms.com/) have previously agreed to getting their big twins on a track for fun ‘ analysis ‘. Roger Goldammer had a prior commitment, but Nortorious would be a great addition if available.

Of all the bikes I’ve seen pictured at Sturgis this year, this is by far the most interesting. In a league of its own.
Come judgment day, this bike will reveal whether the judges are looking for the future of custom bike building or merely mining the past.

Back in 2006 I was approached by Norwegian robotics engineer Peer Toftner, founder of
Veon Motorcycles, to be an engineering partner in the development of a motorcycle that could morph from cruiser to racer.
Peer had already started working on the idea and had even patented it already. Brainstorming together we decided to make rake, trail, wheelbase, ground clearance and sitting position adjustable while riding. Quite a challenge!
I did the CAD design & engineering for the adjustable frame mechanism and Fred Krugger built the first prototype and designed the sheetmetal, pipes and dual footcontrols.
