Michael Lichter’s 2011 “Motorcycle As Art Exhibition” is called “Slant Artist-An Eccentric View on Motorcycles and Art” and will focus on avant-garde bronze artist Jeff Decker. A large majority of the display will consist of Jeff’s personal collection including ten beautiful bronze sculptures. There will also be an eclectic display of motorcycles and wall art culled not only from his personal collection, but from friends and other artists filling the 7,000 square foot Lichter Exhibition Hall located on the grounds of the Sturgis Buffalo Chip®.
Decker will also be working on a new sculpture in the gallery for several hours each day during which time visitors can chat and ask questions from the basics of “lost wax” bronze casting process to motorcycle history or how “Slant Artists”, the incredible motorcycle racers who climb steep inclines against the clock and each other, have impressed him. Each person will be challenged to come away with their own understanding of Decker’s inspirations, aspirations and what makes this eccentric tick, and perhaps what inspires artists in general. This year’s Motorcycles as Art exhibition will be open daily from August 6-12th , 2011 from 10 to 10 pm. with free admittance. (with the exception of Tuesday August 9th where hours will be limited from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. for an invite only industry reception.)
In addition to Decker’s personal collection, there will also be an impressive array of notable bikes on display including: A 1941 Crocker Big tank Custom. A 1952 Vincent Black Lightning. A Wall of Death Bike 1930 Indian Scout. A 1949 JAP Speedway Bike. A Keith Nelson/Billy Lane Custom Motorcycle. A 1934 Harley-Davidson CAC Speedway Racer. Other noteworthy art pieces include an HD Daytona 1968 poster, several original portraits and sketches by legendary artist David Uhl, a selection of rock show posters, and a Rat Fink Kustom Kulture poster, just to name a few.
“The guests at the Chip absolutely love Lichters’ exhibits,” says Sturgis Buffalo Chip® owner, Rod Woodruff. “They have become a hallmark of our Sturgis Rally Week festivities. No other showcase in the industry exemplifies the spirit, passion and complexities of the motorcycling culture. Sure the Chip guests do love Lichter’s exhibit, Rod. Too bad Lichter doesn’t make his exhibit more accessible to all.

Lets see, ride to the Chip, enter the gate, free admision, see Michael’s exhibit, how can any thing be more accessible than that??
Skeeter
Every Lichter event is sensational! This one will be even better. Doubly sensational maybe, but certainly mind blowing. And Jeff’s work is unbelievable. Here we have a combination of the World’s Best motorcycle sculpture artist and the World’s Best motorcycle photographer. What could be better?
doc: Try harder. See Skeeter’s response above. Go to the east end of The Chip. Bam, you’re there. There is nothing exclusive about Michael’s exhibit except the content.
It is great that Jeff’s life time of work and passion is on display. His work is truly outstanding.
It is also nice that Michael featured such a talented artist and equally nice that Buffalo Chip Rod had the foresight to build a permanent venue for such exhibits for all to see and enjoy. Well done.
Slantman Rocks!
What a feast for the eyes to see such a fine artist’s work , his personal collection along with some real treasures. You’d have to pry me away from that Vincent!
A memorable experience to feed the motoheads soul…
