Harley-Davidson Planning Dealerships In Libya, Iraq & Pakistan: Paul De Jongh, country manager for Harley Davidson Middle East and North Africa, has told told Arabian Business News that the company is planning to boost its dealerships in the Middle Eastern countries including Libya and Iraq. We are hoping markets like Tunisia, Libya, Iraq and Pakistan will be future markets that we could have presence in. We know we have got customers in those countries. We see them during rallies. We hear from them often, asking us [when we will be in their countries],” he added.
Samson Exhaust Relocating From California To Sturgis. Samson Exhaust is a 21-year old company based in Brea, Calif., and is one of the leading manufacturers of exhaust systems, mufflers and accessories for Harley-Davidson and Metric motorcycles. Founder and CEO Kenny Price purchased in 2007 a 3-acre site in the Sturgis Industrial Park. He just started construction on a 45,000 square foot building. The relocation project is expected to be completed by April 2013 and will create 30 new jobs.”This move is a giant step for Samson to continue to be a world-class provider of quality products to the motorcycle community, and where better should we be but in Sturgis – the world renowned ‘City of Riders.'” says Kenny Price. A public ceremony is planned for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the construction site located at 1151 Industry Road in the Sturgis Industrial Park.
Harley-Davidson Inc. To Report 3rd Quarter Earning October 23, 2012. It is scheduled at 8 a.m. before market hours on Tuesday, October 23. The public is invited to attend a webcast conference call and downloadable slide presentation with Keith Wandell, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, and John Olin, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Harley-Davidson.
Triumph Motorcycle Recall. There is a technical issue on model year 2006-2009 Daytona 675, Street Triple and Street Triple R Triumph models. A total of 10,366 motorcycles are affected with a defect in the charging system. The regulator/rectifier can overheat and prevent the motorcycle from charging. Once the battery is fully discharged, the motorcycle may stall, increasing the risk of a crash. Triumph will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the regulator/rectifier, free of charge. Triumph has not provided notification schedule. Owners may also contact Triumph customer service department at 1-678-854-2010.
Protest Of European Bikers Against Mandatory Motorcycle Inspection. Until now, European bikers have avoided the technical inspection that all cars must pass. Last July, Under the justification of improving safety, European Commission Vice President Siim Kallas announced that the measure should also apply to all motorcycles (2 & 3 wheelers). Last Saturday, the group “Angry Bikers” demonstrated in Brussels (headquarter of the European Union regrouping 27 member states representing a population of over 500 million inhabitants) claiming that an inspection would cost 1.2 billion euros (a fee is charged for each control) while only 0.6% of motorcycle accidents in Europe are due to a technical failure.

I think it is sad that hd would even consider something like that while we still have soldiers living and dying over there.
It is rather curious that HD wants to open those “risky” markets… Have they really saturated Europe and Asia? More dealers don’i’t necessarily mean more sales… More real products with something other than paint scheme changes might do more to sell bikes IMHO of course..

In order to keep your investors happy you have to continually grow your market. HD is just following orders.
@ matt…. I am a hd investor. I have significant share holdings, 3 hd’s in the garage and hundreds of t-shirts. I have owned over 20 hd’s over a lifetime… Yes I am an investor and I don’t recall asking anyone to sell us out. Based on your logic of appealing to investor wishes, would you say it would be ok to move the whole operation to china that way they could lower over head and increase dividends? I didn’t think so….

DJ, I did my time in Iraq, and swerved around my share of IEDs. The goal was to make the country safer for us, its own citizens, and the rest of the world. If businesses feel it’s now safe enough to set up shop there, then that means we did our jobs well.
Maybe it means *I* did *my* job well. Maybe your purpose was to foster hatred and fear. You do that pretty well with your emotion-charged language about patriotism and selling out. From one vet to another: if you can’t be proud of the work you did over there, then shut. The hell. Up. Stop reflecting so badly on your brothers in arms. We are not at war any more because WE WON, either with your “help” or despite it.
I take it as a positive sign, and look forward to the day McDonalds opens its first restaurant in Baghdad as well.

HD is not the same company anymore, nor are it’s customers. I have moved on, I guess so can they, as I will not support them for many reasons, but this tops the cake IMO
.357 I thank you and appreciate your service to this country, but my feelings about this issue is that untill all of our service men and women are back home with there families there should no trade with these countries! We still won’t trade with Cuba and they didn’t do half of what these other countries have been doing, I think that as long as companies are willing to go to these places it just shows how we have succumed to the almighty dollar. I know times have changed but have they really? Would we have ever thought about a company in Japan. Germany, Korea, or Vietnam if we still had troops over there facing
hostile situations and uncertainty I Think Not!

I commend you for that DJ. I have the utmost respect for your decision to dump the stock in keeping with your convictions.
Perhaps H-D can do to “them” what “they” would LOVE to do to us – and have/are continuously trying,
and that is take us down in any way imaginable. Bomb us, burn us, rape us in the end !! May it be that H-D can see the bigger picture here – the hatred over there is going to spill out in the confines of a custom H-D and, when all are gathered around to ogle at what the infidels have created, ignite the IED hidden in the fuel tank !!! If I thought of that, do you not think for a moment that “they” have not thought of it also? It is a sad situation, but let’s agree on one thing – the bikers over in Iraq and Iran and Libya are most likely not the culprits here, and just want to ride the most prolific symbol of peace there is, i.e., a HOG on a free and open highway, with the IED’s and hatred left far behind…..But as for the “FREE” part of it, the time is coming when our roads and highways here at home are not going to be so “FREE” anymore, our liberties are at stake right here, right now.
