Man Who Buried Harley-Davidson Motorcycle To Collect Insurance Is Sentenced. A biker’s plan to bury his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and then fraudulently collect the insurance money on it has backfired. Rather than turning a profit, the scam has resulted in the man owing more than $25,000, plus the time he’ll have to serve behind bars. A judge sentenced Chad E. Dejongh to 182 days in jail, with credit for two days served. The judge deferred an additional 93 days and ordered Dejongh to serve three years of probation upon his release. Dejongh in October 2009 reported his Rocker C motorcycle stolen, claiming he last saw it in his yard in the 1100 block of South Carter Road with a “For Sale” sign. In September 2011, Dejongh’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Laurie Dejongh, contacted police and said she witnessed him burying the bike on a relative’s Midland County property. Dhe said that she saw her husband using a Kubota tractor to inter the bike in a hole that was about five feet deep, court records show. She told police that her husband threatened to kill her and bury her alongside the Harley if she told anyone. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for Dejongh in April 2012.
