The Quail Lodge & Golf Club, California will welcome the day-long 5th annual event celebrating motorcycling heritage and performance to be held on Saturday, May 4th. The Quail Motorcycle Gathering features displays by leading manufacturers, dealerships and accessory and lifestyle vendors, culinary pavilions, brew tents, live entertainment and much more.
This year, special guest is racing legend Wayne Rainey. A three-time champion of the 500cc Grand Prix and winner of the Daytona 500, Rainey gained recognition throughout his career for being a determined and spectacular rider. From the age of six, he had a strong passion for motorsports and, through his successes, became known for his smooth riding style and racing confidence. Rainey won his titles in 1990, 1991 and 1992 while riding for Yamaha in addition to two U.S. Superbike Championships in 1983 and 1987. Rainey will be displaying his world-championship Yamaha YZR500.
AVA Velocity Works will make its first world debut at The Quail Motorcycle Gathering 2013. The new motorcycle manufacturer, founded by designer Adrian Van Anz, will introduce its first model at the show, the 250 Swift. The 250 Swift is a =vintage racer for the road and features design inspired by the small displacement GP race bikes of the 1960’s.
The Quail Motorcycle Gathering will also feature The Quail Marketplace, a for-sale-by-owner corral. Introduced in 2012, The Quail Marketplace offers guests an opportunity to purchase directly from other motorcycle enthusiasts. During the event, guests will dine on gourmet barbecue fare, presenting a selection of dishes such as spice rubbed wood-grilled chicken with bourbon-molasses glaze and slow smoked barbecued pork with Lexington dip or Kansas City-style sauce.
Participation as an entrant is $120 and includes two tickets, gourmet lunch, and an event gift bag. Tickets to The Quail Motorcycle Gathering are $65 per person ($15 for children 12 and under), and include a gourmet barbeque lunch, offerings from local wineries and breweries together with live musical entertainment. I do many bike shows and Quail is in the top few.
I was in Stett’s this morning, picking-up a V-Twin 4-speed transmission – and depositing (in my trusty, wooden-slat, 7-Up® Bottling crate – filled with yet-another OEM 4-spd trans. from garage-fresh, 1991, Lakeside Bill (r.i.p) and destined for a re-manufacturing with a needle-bearing [an FX mod] Andrews MDG, by a [shipyard] marine machinist using a 12 ft. lathe and finished with a 4 ft. diameter, ID grinder 🙂 ) ……. and was stopped in my tracks by a spaghetti-thin, red-frame K-model build, with an equally thin profile, chrome Paughco spring fork, which a lady had recently commissioned from Stett to restore, eye level on the table, and thought:
This is a project worth dropping-in on. I supposed there could be a traveling video-orgapher that visited shops on-call [hauling two light boxes & a *SonyPJ (internal projector)] to create a short U-tube “nickle tour” of what’s being built by whom and where, with what parts. [* The Sony PJ projects the video on a wall up to 20 ft. away, so the near-finished video can be viewed and accepted by the builder/shop right on the spot].
Something like this would standardize a weekly update on what’s being built in our fragmented domain.
So, if Cyril (there IS no body else) collected these clips, and then published them whenever he had collected enough to warrant a post, it would bring a bunch of builders together in one box of highlighted url’s to click-on and comment.
