Frenchman Sets World Speed Record On bike Fueled By Bleaching Hair Component

Not a blonde story. Frenchman Francois Gissy set a world speed record Sunday by reaching 163.4 mph (speed measures by GPS) on a rocket-powered motorcycle fueled by hydrogen peroxide, the same ingredient used to bleach hair. For safety issues, public was not admitted on the bleachers to watch the attempt. This very special bike “to dye for” was produced by a Swiss company called Exotic Thermo Engineering qualifying it of ecological ! Really?

Dangerous. Hydrogen peroxide explosion is what sunk the Kursk. Used in their torpedoes, some how unstable apparently.

I remember in the early 70’s, seeing Captain Jack McClure race his hydrogen peroxide/silver catalyst rocket powered go cart at US 30 Dragstrip in Indiana. At that point in time he was hitting 200mph in the quarter.

I read somewhere recently that he had boosted the fuel pressure and achieved almost 250mph at a track in Kansas (I believe). I also read that he was using 40% pure hydrogen peroxide as his fuel of choice and that he only carried enough of it for the engine to burn for 1000ft, so he was basically coasting across the finish line.

I also seem to recall that hydrogen peroxide, in concentration, is a rather aggressive oxidizer that can corrode many materials, including human skin.

Fact is chassis (all aluminium) was machined and welded at Sbay´s factory in southern Spain.

The Germans used these in WWII and most of the crews were killed when the rocket fuel blew up in take offs or when a little was left in the tanks on landing…this French Guy is one brave Dude…

Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick is still alive and still racing a Pontiac at age 83. Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! at US30 on WLS AM……….Those were the times!
