BMW Concept Ninety

bmwconcept90-1BMW Motorrad, 90 years of two wheeled history. The BMW R 90 S likewise has cause to celebrate: the BMW Motorrad design icon turns 40 this year. As a tribute to both these anniversaries, the BMW Group has come up with an exclusive homage to the BMW R 90 S: the BMW Concept Ninety. This concept BMW attempts to rsurrect this spirit of the emotionally charged superbike,

bmwconcept90-2bmwconcept90-3A sporty boxer with a battery of sophisticated details. Its basic proportions clearly take their cue from the forebear that inspired this concept: the fairing, tank, seat and tail instantly signal its family bond with the BMW R 90 S. The BMW Concept Ninety also picks up on the demarcation of the bike’s proportions that was a hallmark of the time. The upper ergonomic and aerodynamic bodywork is visually separated from the black engine and chassis. The bodywork is hand crafted from aluminium. Its brushed areas can be seen in the tinted areas of the front fairing and tank, as well as at the tail. The rich orange shade of the BMW Concept Ninety is also a nod to the legendary Daytona Orange paintwork of the BMW R 90 S.

The BMW Concept Ninety delivers a very sporty interpretation of the front fairing. But whereas halogen was technically cutting-edge in the BMW R 90 S era, contemporary LED elements light up the face of the BMW Concept Ninety, honouring its ancestor with a round headlamp design. Several of the high-quality one-off parts of the BMW Concept Ninety hail from custom bike builder Roland Sands Design in California. .

I wonder why the BMW group did not use the new modular based boxer emgine that is now on the 2013 1200 GS bikes.

The seat looks like a Midwest teenagers CB350 café seat effort and nothing at all like a bulbous a R90s one.Why not have the smokey R90s style paint on the seat and the fairing and not just the tank? The sporty dual mufflers just look plain strange on a boxer. The only link with the original really is a small patch of smokey paint on the tank.

Wow, it is amazing how one can look at a Motorcycle that is a pure fine Bike and quality and beauty. Here is someone else who looks or doesn’t see that these are the Best Riding and finest Manufactured Motorcycles in the World. I remember “Back in the Days” when my Favorite song in the World and finest saying in the World was……………..”Kawasaki,…. Let the Good Times Roll” and looking at the Nerds or the Hippies riding the 500 and 650 Boxers and laughing and thinking to myself “who would ever want to Ride one of those boring motorcycles”? Then, circumstances happened and I had to leave Town in a hurry and this Nerd of a Neighbor gave me a ride out of Town about 100 miles from where i lived. He owned a 650 cc BMW and he volunteered to deliver my ass to ……………..I said after 2 minutes on his 650 as we so quietly and smoothly got to a 75 mph effortlessly and quietly also. I vowed, that I would always have a BMW in my Garage. If everyone that hung around me and loved Motorcycles like I, would think I was a “Nerd” no problem.. You know after having Owning and Riding BMW’s along with My HD’s and countless other bikes, that BMW’s only became better, Remember that Old 1970 650 boxer, well I bot one and another 750 cc and another 1150 cc and another 1200 cc and I would love to own that Bike in your Article. Thank You, Cyril for recognizing a Classic and a Company that has influenced every other Manufacturer to become a better Motorcycle and copy BMW, in one way or another.BMW has made every Motorcycle Owner ride Safer.

Very beautiful bike. So nice to see a new bike with organic lines rather than the absolute ugliness of jumbled, sharply creased lines and intersecting flat planes reminiscent in many cases of an insect or transformer toy.

This ‘modern’ ugly aesthetic applies to 90% of motorcycles made today all of which appear to take their styling cues from GP style race bikes…doesn’t matter if it’s a small cc street bike, a sport tourer, an ‘adventure’ bike, etc. etc., they all look the same and all share garish Jet Ski style paint jobs….ugh!

Thank god we are beginning to see more classic styling making a return.
