I hope he is able to come back and be beneficial to society. Wasn’t a big fan of much of his work but he’s got talent for sure.

Joe it wasn’t a kid he killed, not that t matters, but no he didn’t get screwed…just for some reason lots of others don’t get what they deserve especially if they are a pro athlete or an actor.

I’m glad this part is almost over for Billy. He has to live with what happened the rest of his life…but time for him to get on with his life.

Still a fan of Billy. Met him in 2007 at Sturgis & he’s a great guy.

Dumb drunks deserve zero pity.but they do deserve a second chance and true respect for their real efforts to live a good life.Good behaviour in the slot is not to be scoffed at either. All flesh is grass and ends up as dust, and the lost guy is resting in peace. When I think of all the insanely fast and risky thinks I have done on bikes over the years, straight or addled, that could have killed a handful of friends or passerbys over the years I may well have ended up in exactly the same position. It’s all great sport and fun before some medic is walking around in the trees looking for some guys head.Go-Go Billy, good luck.

Would you still think Billy Lane was “Cool” if it was you or your Loved one he Killed – Murdered?

One look at Billy’s record proves he was on a path to Kill Gerry Morelock a long time before Sept 4, 2006. This time His Blood Alcohol was .192 by the time he was tested.

I can’t look at Billy and not see the Death and Destruction he is “solely” responsible for. Billy you have yet another chance, you must change your ways. Before you kill another one of us.

  36. 36 Smitty Aug 9th, 2013 at 11:09 am

“He deserves a second chance”. That’s what everyone seems to be saying. It needs to be known that he had already had a second chance and blew it! He had been arrested for DWI in North Carolina and his drivers license had been suspended before the wreck that took a fellow motorcyclist.
At the time of the wreck, Lane was passing illegally, driving without a valid drivers license and had a blood alcohol content over twice the legal limit.
How many chances does one person need?

Celebrity worship is a sad thing!

The dead motorcyclist was Gerald Morelock.

Great to see ya back on the wrenches. Can’t wait till you blow the WORLD away with your next bike. Being packed away for 6 years and looking at the crap others have sorta built, I’m sure have you set on fire. We have meet before and I enjoyed the time we did spend together. It was long before TV ruined the chopper scene and most of the ones involved with it . Now if ya remember I did ask you one thing. I said dont sell out like all the others did, and you said you wouldn’t. Now get back to work and do what you do. Hope our paths cross again soon

Working in the custom motorcycle industry I could not think of anything worse than being responsible for the death of a fellow motorcycle rider. For me it is not about what Billy has done in the past but more about what he does in the future to honour the life of the Gerald Morelock and his family. Go and talk at schools, volunteer your time with crash victims, fundraise for the family, just do something to ensure his death was not meaningless.

  52. 52 jason Aug 11th, 2013 at 1:02 am

I have to agree with you Dave. he should tell his lesson to others. he probably would want to.

  54. 54 Terence Tory Aug 11th, 2013 at 8:56 am

I did a bit of dumpster diving in Cyril’s old cache from 09′ :”Breaking News. Billy Lane Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison.” I found these and other old gems:

A short excerpt: Rogue: “But It Was Morelock who killed himself”.

And then this guy pipes in agreement on that statement, and Rogues long piece:

Doc Robinson,Aug 16th, 2009.:”Thank you Rogue for presenting such a reasoned and accurate clarification statement.”

Then this “Rorschach inkblot” of “advanced envy theory 101″ in action crops up:

Phil:”The only reason that most of you guys are deriving your perverted pleasure from Billy being in jail is because you’re envious of him. –

He optimized Cool and told the man to fuck off.

Bottom line Billy’s in jail and you are still invisible!”

People don’t like reality of death by drunk very much, and all sorts of wacky theories, tepid excuses and thought patterns seem to crawl out of a corner of the human brain like cockroaches from a dusty corner in a pharaoh’s musty tomb.It is irrelevant whether a crash death was caused by a sad drunk in a “borrowed pickup” or little baby Jesus riding a golden chariot of fire with Arlen Ness’s blessing of sacramental wine.It did not matter in law,in the least,if the crime was done by a nobody or a “celebrity”.Don’t make any effort concocting excuses for “fallen heroes”,it is just a truly bad example for young guys that follow them with glee.Being a fervent fan-boy does not excuse or change the sad reality of death by dumb.I wish Billy a good future, and his fans time to ponder how this has all ended up:a lesson.

  55. 55 Mike Greenwald Aug 11th, 2013 at 9:23 am

    Terence Tory,

If you read that Morelock was also under the influence and read that Morelock did not stop before entering the roadway, you may have credibility to your statement.

    Mike

  56. 56 ROGUE Aug 11th, 2013 at 10:28 am

I am pleased that Billy has done and is doing what is part of what he was sentenced to and has now reached the work release part of his sentence,
Please remember he is still in custody and there are rules about his work.
Since he is at a shop to do that all should respect that and the man who employed him.
I do believe the Florida penal system does have rules about his work situation and hopefully people will respect that.
Let him finish and continue to make his way back into society.

@ Mike Greenwald , Billy had crossed the double yellow line to pass a group of cars on A1A , Gerold pulled out of the park on the proper lane , Billy was in Gerolds lane , on the wrong side of the road ( passing cars ) . Billy was speeding ( 50 to 90 MPH only Billy knows for sure ) and ran over Gerold Morlock ( who was in his proper lane ) with his lifted Dodge pick up , killing him instantly . Saying that Mr Morlock was responsible or contributed in any way to his own death is just not a true statement . When the truth doesn’t fit ones adgenda , they spin the story till the uninformed masses eat up the BS version of the “truth” . Wasn’t the word you used above ” credibility ” ? huh …………….

  63. 63 Mike Greenwald Aug 12th, 2013 at 3:34 pm

Rub, tell the whole story. In Florida, if you start your pass before the double yellow begins, you may complete the pass even though there is a double yellow line there. Also, in Florida, you are required to stop your vehicle before entering the roadway. Tory, maybe nonsense, but, also the the truth. The blackmail of stacked charges was also pushed into the fray.

Mike is right ….in no way is it an excuse but the fact is not everyone knows the whole story
How many people know that “, autopsy reports showed that Gerald Morelock had a blood alcohol level of .133. Billy Lane had caused the wreck on September 4th by crossing the double yellow lines on Highway A1A while passing 3 vehicles. Lane was later found to have had a blood alcohol level content of 0.192 and was charged with DUI Manslaughter for the death of Morelock. – See more at: http://www.mikeodom.name/2006/11/13/autopsy-report#sthash.faAbRBNf.dpuf

    Shouldn’t have probably gotten on his scooter ….billy shouldn’t have driven period…..but I. 67. 67 RUB Aug 13th, 2013 at 8:56 am

@ Mike Greenwald , spin it any way you want , it still doesn’t change what happened . You worship poor Billy , and blame the victim . This is whats wrong with the world today .

  68. 68 Mike Greenwald Aug 13th, 2013 at 9:20 am

    Rub,

The truth is not the spin. No worship here. Two drunks crash. One dies. One has media celebrity hoisted upon him, one does not. Prosecutor’s office needs a high profile win for career stats and election votes. Plain and simple. What’s wrong with the world is that you only believe partial truths to your end of the discussion. You sound like a politician, what’s your point?

  69. 69 Terence Tory Aug 13th, 2013 at 9:44 am

Mack:”how many have a left a bar and driven ? …I’m guessing the vast majority on here”. You guessed wrong I say. There are plenty of people with enough brains and self control, and respect for other road users mortality to only drive with absolutely minimal alcohol in their system.A level of 0.192 is plenty of beers for an average size guys driving to turn bad.

Forget the “Billy’s good” and the “Billy’s bad” to and fro. He’s done his time and I wish him all the best.

I’m disgusted with some guys statements and attitudes here to drunk driving in this day and age.You can fool yourself, but not your addled reaction time when you need to brake or evade.

The only people I have known personally to die in car or bike crashes have had drunk operators.Five guys dead in one car,and a guy falling off the back of a bike and stuck up a tree, dead.

  70. 70 Mack Aug 13th, 2013 at 11:52 am

@terence….I think u mis understand ..in no way am I condoning drinking and driving ….I’m just trying to “get real” and I ain’t saying “oh everybody drinks and drives ” …what I am saying is OPEN YOUR EYES
most rallies are drink fests and people ain’t walkin…now alot of guys i know on here have quit drinking but they were out there at one time , they got smart
And alot are very responible but the fact is it does not take very many drinks to be “legally drunk”
And there are millions everyday out there stopping at the bar and then driving or riding home everyday, only difference in them and billy is by the grace of god they made it home….if you don’t see this then u r in denial of reality ….doesn’t make it right or ok but the fact is it happens all the time ..so I just wish alot of the ” I can handle my drinking guys “would quit treating him like a serial killer …he was wrong he knows it and he’s suffering more than you will ever know. Believe me…
    Let him be
    I’m done
    Peace out

  72. 72 RUB Aug 14th, 2013 at 8:23 am

@ Mike Greenwald , OK mike , answer me this . Would you say the 2 involved were 50% at fault each ? Or who was more at fault in your theory ? I’m wondering how you divide it up . Thanks in advance .

  73. 73 Mike Greenwald Aug 14th, 2013 at 11:35 am

    RUB,

    Sounds like a trick question.
Both are 100% guilty of drinking and driving.
Both broke rules of the road.
It seems that you want me to weight the decision in favor of one vehicle operator over the other. I see it as a very simple equation, “Two wrongs do not make a right.”
Others have decided to play favorites for one side or the other. I do not see it that way. The plus side to this incident was for the media. The media got to stir everyone into a frenzy. The consumers of the media were the collateral damage. Incidents, such as this one, can bring out the most vile and despicable commentary about our society. We are all vulnerable to forming opinions without having all the facts. Many of us form opinions extrapolated from other opinions. A form of gossip, I surmise. It was a damned shame that it happened. Worse yet were all the keyboard cowboys that jumped in with prejudice, notion and a billion two cent contributions, proving that they were “all hat and no cowboy”. At this point in time, we all have a choice to make. Either we can support the victims of both sides of this tragedy or, we can damn them to our indifference. That is how I divide it up.
    You’re welcome.

    Mike

  74. 74 RUB Aug 15th, 2013 at 6:04 am

Mike , all I’m asking for is your opinion . Not that both were wrong , both were victims , thats to politically correct for me . I would give Bill 85% @ fault with Gerold getting 15% . See that wasn’t hard at all . Come on , whats your “opinion” on this matter ?

  75. 75 Mike Greenwald Aug 15th, 2013 at 6:42 am

    RUB,

I have traveled the road where it happened. I know where both vehicles were and where they collided. You are entitled to your opinion. I gave you my opinion in a previous answer. Based upon the facts of this case, your opinion appears to be a greater percentage of boneheaded. You are right, not hard at all.

    Mike , So you argee with my findings ? Billy was 85% @ fault ? You write a whole paragraph but don’t say anything . Billy @ 85% higher or lower ? 50 / 50 ?

  77. 77 Mike Greenwald Aug 15th, 2013 at 11:24 am

RUB, they are both at fault. It is black and white, no grey area. You really need to ask an insurance actuary provided that you can give the facts and not the opinion.

  78. 78 RUB Aug 15th, 2013 at 1:48 pm

come on Mike , if its black and white , tell me who is more at fault in your mind ? After all , there is no grey area , right ? Billy 85% ?????? Do you think that accurate ? Maybe too high ? This isn’t a trick question , but I keep getting trick answers ………………………………. That reminds me , maybe I’ll have waffles for breakfast tomorrow . 😉

  79. 79 Mike Greenwald Aug 15th, 2013 at 2:22 pm

equal fault equal blame, it is still 50/50, no matter what the hell you’re eatin’ or smokin’

  80. 80 RUB Aug 16th, 2013 at 7:01 am

So glad to see you are back doing what you enjoy.

  84. 84 Taylor Aug 18th, 2013 at 2:23 pm

What I have yet to read in the comments is that Billy and the surviving kids of tge man he killed actually came yo peace and they fought not to have him put in jail feeling he could do more using his celebrity status to combat drinking and driving. The judge still threw the book at him. If the mams kids can gorgive then we should too. Glad to see he is close to release. If you watch the video of the judge telling his sentence after the man he killed you can hear them saying we love you Billy. That is forgiveness I have to respect. Simply because I doubt I could do it if tables were turned.

Happy for Billy, was inspired by him around 2005. Keep at designing and building man!

  89. 89 BritSmith Aug 19th, 2013 at 4:07 am

He made a mistake. He has paid for it. He will live with the guilt the rest of his life. But you cant get away from the fact that the guy has talent. In the time he has been in jail the chopper seen has become boring we need Billy back for some true inspiration. The world has changed financially and we need people who can brighten your day to change our attitude back to positivity. Billy Lane is one of those. I wish him well and hope that his time in Orlando will get his head back into society and the motorcycle scene. Hope to see you soon. GOOD LUCK!

Billy, I know you are a better man and will learn from all of this so just keep your head and stay focused on your future and the fans you still have. Best of luck to you and your future. I can not wait til you are back in the shop and putting your imagination back on steel. Stay up buddy.

It will be an adjustment. It was an unfortunate accident. Alcohol seemed to play the biggest role. At this point what’s important is from ‘This’ moment forward. That’s what matters. It’s what ‘Billy’ does with this experience that will show his character. He may be even better than before……. I hope he doesn’t get caught up in the ‘Fat and Sassy’ part of the show business end. And remains humble. Time will tell……… Peace!
    Billy Lane.

  105. 105 Raven Oct 17th, 2013 at 1:21 pm

I am happy Billy is now able to slowly go back to what he loves doing. Regardless of what happened , it was a terrible thing for all parties involved. Billy will have to live with what happened all of his life and that can be hard. Everything happens for a reason, nothing is by chance. Love the short hair on you Billy!!! Wishing you (Billy) much love and light in you life in geting back on track and staying there. One day at a time. Big hugs.

  106. 106 Two-Wheeled Tim Oct 24th, 2013 at 2:04 am

I can only hope that as the process of Billy’s release begins, he will emerge from this chapter of his life a changed man. In my line of work you meet a lot of self-important drunks and drug addicts. It’s tiring at times and I can see where Billy may have fit that archetype. People who live fast and engage in self-destructive behavior almost always implode upon themselves. Billy certainly did, but — more importantly — destroyed another human being in the process. That’s nothing to be overlooked or marginalized by his fans, especially those of you in this thread who fawn over him in your comments.

Billy, if you ever read this, peace be with you. I hope your path will now be set to right and that the rest of your life will have true meaning and be used to bless and serve others. Good luck.

  107. 107 Dave Nov 6th, 2013 at 7:49 pm

Yes Billy Lane took a life while driving drunk , and there is no amount of time in jail or prison can bring that person back ,, im sure Billy is very well aware of this fact as has to live with it forever. Unless you are a person that has never made any mistakes or didnt do any wrong to anybody in your lifetime ,, and can prove to being just as the Messiah,,, dont cast a stone because it makes you look like a useless idiot that probable has OBAMA 2012 stickers on your bumper.

  108. 108 Joe G Nov 9th, 2013 at 11:41 am

Well, had Moreland hit and killed Billy walking across A1A, Moreland would be in Billy’s spot right now. He WAS over the limit, no dispute about that. Not blaming the victim, but, the victim certainly shares in the blame. Even if Billy did the same thing he did that night, if Moreland pushes right a split sec faster, he’s still here.

But the real reason I posted was to share a story about Billy and my kid. My kid was about 11 and we were at Bike Week. My kid saw Billy an walked up and asked him for a pic and his autograph. Billy was VERY kind and engaging. After the pic, he asked what he wanted signed. My kid said “My underwear!” Billy said “OK, drop your pants”, and my kid did, only to reveal a pair of Orange County Choppers briefs. Billy said “I won’t sign THOSE!!!”, and when he got a “Please, Mr. Lane???” out of him, he said “Sure, I was just kidding”. My kid’s 19 now and the shorts are hanging on the wall of his room.

  109. 109 Terence Tory Nov 9th, 2013 at 12:28 pm

Joe G :”not blaming the victim”.Then procedes to apportion blame towards the victim.”I’m not a racist, some of my best friends are. ……..”.Thimk.

Damn shame for all concerned. We’re all guilty of drink driving, yes we are! The whole situation is sorry. Just part of the human condition. I’d put money on billy’s regret. The whole situation is sorrow. But America being what it is, I hope Billy’s release isn’t a huge circus, and that he’s genuinely humble. Please don’t drink and drive again billy. I know it’s hard. I struggle too …

  117. 117 Lessons learned Jan 29th, 2014 at 4:31 pm

To those that want to be nasty about what he did, know that we are all human. We all make mistakes, though some more tragic than others. It could be any one of us having one too many and thinking we are okay to drive. He paid his dues. And the family of the deceased, who are the ONLY people that have a right to hold this act against him and be angry, have chosen to forgive him. This video proves that. So STFU and let Billy get on with his life. I’m sure he’s going to think about this for the rest of his life and never truly forgive himself. Compassion, Forgiveness and Sympathy are something we all should have for BOTH people.

  118. 118 Decide not to drink and drive, DUH!!!! Jan 30th, 2014 at 8:21 pm
