Actor Peter Fonda Wants To Recreate Easy Rider Trip On Electric Harley Motorcycle

HarleyElecTricMotorcyclePeter-FondaPeter Fonda, whose Wyatt character in the 1969 movie Easy Rider travelled across America from California to Louisiana. says he is a fan of the new electric Harley and wants to take it on a road trip across the USA.

When asked about opposition to an electric engine powered motorcycle from traditional hard-core bikers, his reply is, “To hell with them.” Looks to me like Fonda just made a spokesperson job or sponsorship request to Harley-Davidson…

Purrrrfect…that would be good publicity…’cept no roll of bills in the battery

  2. 2 Rodent Jul 2nd, 2014 at 8:45 am

Not environmentally kosher to blow up batteries at end

A futile and unfortunate publicity stunt on the part of a man of a ‘ certain age’ desperately craving more fame and attention than he already has or needs . All bets are if it happens it’ll all go bad , having a more negative than positive effect overall … especially with the bike’s lack of range and hardly nowhere on that route to recharge the thing . Here’s hoping Mr Fonda comes to his senses before its too late 😉

Looking at the Tesla Supercharger map, you’d need around 130 mile range to make it cross country. And that’s assuming you could interface a Supercharger to the Livewire to begin with. Some day.

He’ll die of old age before he gets out of California @ 50 miles a charge, unless he cheats and replaces the battery instead of charging it. Maybe we need gas stations that have replacement fuel tanks already full for you when you arrive….

Haha. I am just imagining ‘Born to be Wild’ playing over a montage of him attempting to pass the time while waiting for the thing to charge every 50 miles. 😉

Let’s see… to cross the United States within 10 days to 2 weeks using the “Live Wire” model e-bike in its 50 mile range, you would need a support vehicle (gas or diesel powered), able to carry up to 4 e-bikes so that one may be in use while 3 remain in various stages of recharge, (using a gas or diesel powered generator), and probably a gas or diesel powered AC unit as well, just to make 200-250 miles in 8 hours.
Congratulations, crossing the U.S. on an e-bike would use as much fossil fuel as a loaded dump truck. This simple thinking is why only “smart” people see a future in this technology. Is it cool… well, kinda. Is it gonna happen? Not very likely, that’s why it hasn’t happened in the past 100 years since the inception of electric vehicles.
By the way, fossil fuel is where 80% of American electricity comes from, so every e-bike is still basically a fossil fuel vehicle.

Put a generator on a trailer and tow it behind you.
I think a cross country trip is the stupidest idea for the Livewire.
I am going to burn dinosaur juice till I die.
Actors aren’t all that smart anyway. Just because he played a biker on Easy Rider doesn’t make him a biker. He’s a motorcycle rider. I doubt he even rides often. Maybe the Love Ride every year.
I think electric vehicles are all hype. They are not cost effective or practical. People act like electricity is free. Prius drivers are mostly sheep who want to be seen as helping the cause. Look at me I’m a tree hugger!
    Internal Combustion till I die.

    Peter Fonda……..???
    Isn’t he dead….???
(at least as dead as the E-bike idea, anyway)

peter fonda rides his bike from his home in livingston montana to sturgis almost every year for the event. maybe that is the trip he plans to use the electric bike for.

    OMG !!!!!!!
    C’mon, Peter,say it ain’t so !!!!
How can one of the guys who started my whole fascination with cycles

Billy isn’t here to be a wing man so It shouldn’t happen. Not interesting anyway.

Peter Fonda was in Easy Riders? I thought he was the cool Dad that left the Del Fuegos…

  15. 15 Wilhelm Jul 3rd, 2014 at 6:11 am

Pathetic. Nothing but ridicule in it from the diehards (including me), who grew up on the sound of his and Billy’s panheads ringing in their ears, and no kid who may be a potential buyer in the middle future wants to associate with an old fart he has never even heard of. Better rethink, H-D publicity dept.

I saw Easy Rider when it first came out, went to theater on a 1967 XLCH and am a big fan of the movie no matter how “dated” it may be. Mr Fonda would either need a back-up vehicle with a generator to charge bike at 50 mile “potty breaks” or stop by every retirement home along the way to plug in. It ain’t easu getting old I can tell y’all. Bless Pete and Billy RIP

It might be possible to do a ride of that distance with some planning and a larger battery bank. If you can get the recharge time down it might not be a problem because us over 50’s are going to stop for a pee anyway, then stop for lunch and a coffe break or two and you’re in the ball park.

    new dreams…
    new music…
    new perspective…
    new clothes…
    new wheels…
    new ride…
and a Wanted poster… for a sense of humor.

  19. 19 Brenboy Jul 9th, 2014 at 9:33 pm

Love the shape, design and style of the bike… put a gas engine in it and I’d buy it in a second… nice high tech Rotax would be very cool, would give Ducati, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi a run for their money!

  20. 20 Dr Robert Harms Jul 11th, 2014 at 8:39 am

The charging time would VASTLY exceed the ride time and prove nothing and reinforce the well known range dread.Electric bikes …and I own one…are not ready for prime time …aka cross county trips

I’m really enjoying the theme/design of your blog. Do you ever
run into any internet browser compatibility issues?
A handful of my blog visitors have complained about my site not working correctly in Explorer but
looks great in Safari. Do you have any ideas to help
    fix this problem?
