Antique Motorcycles Set To Race At the 74th Sturgis Rally On Tuesday August 5, 2014

20th-Century-Racing-Board-Track-ClassPappy Hoel Half Mile Classic’s Harley vs. Indian vintage motorcycle races will be held at the Sturgis Fairgrounds during the 2014 rally. These antique race bikes may look small and similar to the bicycles you rode as a kid, but they can reach speeds in excess of 70 mph on a half mile track without brakes, clutches or transmissions. All it takes is a simple push to start their engines and they are off. Admission to the AMA sanctioned race is only $15!

Watching these primitive machines really brings back the bygone mechanical era, where Harley and Indian would duke it out every race at the old wooden tracks. Just seeing them run today on a track is a spectacle in itself. Most bikes like these are held in museums, only to be viewed from a distance. After the races, fans are invited to come down to meet the 20th Century Racing antique motorcycle racers for autographed posters and see their antiquated board track racing motorcycles up close.

On Tuesday, August 5th at 11:00 a.m. Brittney Olsen will be racing her 1923 Harley-Davidson J Model board track racer at the 2014 Pappy Hoel Half Mile Classic hosted by The White Plate Flat Trackers Association and Steve Nace Racing. 20th Century Racing aims to preserve the magnificent history of early motorcycle racing by generating excitement, gaining interest and educating current and future motorcycle enthusiasts from around the world, through their antique motorcycle racing adventures! One might hope it would also bring back the “bygone spirit of the motorcyclists” of that era.
