Scorpion V-Rod Trike Kit Project

scorpiovrodtrikeA kit to turn a Harley V-Rod into a reverse trike in about 4 hours for a budget of $5000.00? The idea seems to interest unite a few Harley dealers and bikers in the USA and abroad. I guess aging V-Rod riders.

The idea and conception (2 front wheels) comes from John Kroening from Wisconsin based Superior Design. No frame modification is required. Another version is promised for Harley-Davidson touring bikes (FL frame) The company expects to make its Scorpion trike kit available in the Spring of 2015. It will be dealer installed or shipped directly to the customer for self-installation. Scorpion Trikes.

It may work but boy is it ugly. Sometimes ugly sells!

I hope the front wheels lean. Otherwise what is the point of having motorcycle tires on the front? Options are good. Having ridden a traditional trike with the two wheels in the back; I like this configuration better.

I wonder if they will do the same thing for the Indian Scout, other HD models, and some Victory models at some point…

The front end needs a custom one piece body shell up to the headlight along with a set of attached custom front fenders.

    Is this a joke?

Great Option!!! I just found out I have a herniated disc which might limit my VROD riding and so this idea may could help my riding

A front cover / fender will improve the look

Hope it handles better than a CanAm which has extremely twitchy handling (based on my test ride at Sturgis).

Trikes … are fine …. two up front …. two in back … doesn’t much matter [ unless you’re trying to ‘ drive ‘ it like a sports car ]…. and they get as well as keep a whole lot of people on bikes that might otherwise not be able to ride .

So for this … though a bit [ ok …. a lot ] on the fugly side ? … Two thumbs up .

But for me ? I say lets bring sidecars back in full swing . Useful … utilitarian [ which trikes other than Servicars are not ] … all with a sense of style and requiring a bit of iconoclast and an individual personality .

Which is to request Cyril …. more sidecars please 😉

I am certain that someone spent time, money, and elbow grease to get this rig made, and I certainly commend anyone’s efforts to reach for the stars.
Having said that, I find it to be … not at all my taste.

Trikes (ie any type of three-wheeled vehicle) are a dumb idea.

The entire concept is beset with physics that simply makes it an impractical proposition. Even a side-car is a dumb idea – period.

A classic dynamic instability of two-leading wheel trikes are bump steer and/or roll-steer – where the thing tends to veer/steer when the wheel/s go over bumps (ie irregular surface). Likely the reason the CanAm feels ‘twitchy’.

The problem with single-wheel leading trikes are that a trail causes instability. Ie the same trail that will give stability to a two-wheeled motorcycle will cause a three-wheeled vehicle to be unstable. Therefore simply fitting a sidecar to a motorcycle will make it unstable/unsafe.

Rather take the $5k and spend it on a cheap convertible car, you will have far more fun, versus being the victim of a serious accident.

As an owner of a VRSCR “Street Rod” Model , my response is “Oh Hell NO !”

Three wheels are getting hot now and as the Boomer generation gets older, there’ll be more and more. Not my cup o’ tea but hey, ride whatever puts a smile on your face.

This really is ugly. Take a look at V-Rod trikes by the likes of The Trike Shop in wales with IRS rear ends and see that it doesn’t have to be so…

For me a better option than 3 wheels, is to get in the gym, have back surgery if necessary to cure bulging disc, or quit riding when I can’t handle a two wheeled motorcycle. I see too many boomers just giving in to old age. I rode from San Antonio to Milwaukee with a Harley dealer, the late Ray Texter, when he was 77 years old. He handled his Tour Glide with no problems. Obviously, he was in pretty good shape for a man of his age. RIP Ray.

What happened to Terence Tory (Troy)? I haven’t heard from him in a long while.
Trike kit looks weird in front, needs some kind of bodywork/cover.

Just because you CAN do something, doesn’t mean you should.

If you can’t hold up 2 wheels, then go buy a convertible.

  16. 16 Woody Aug 18th, 2014 at 6:28 pm

Anyone who doesn’t approve of trikes being ridden doesn’t have to buy one. I’d rather drive a two-seater convertible than a trike but I can’t imagine wanting others to give up that choice just because of my mindset.

“What is one man’s garbage is another man’s dessert…”
Not for me, but it looks like it takes some kind of engineering to be able to make it look/run like that.
Me, if I was 3 wheelin’ it, the ol’ lady says it’s the Can-Am Spyder (the $30,000 one) or nothing at all.
