I am actually surprised that the HP and Torque at the wheel is not higher for the Indian 111 motor.

Mike, I’m a little confused. S&S is claiming a HP increase of 5HP at 79.7. What is the stock 111″ HP?

Richard, I mean that I thought the stock 111 cubic inch motor would already have HP and torque of around 85/105 at the wheel. I am surprised that even with an S&S air cleaner the best it runs is 79/104. I think there MUST be more HP and torque hidden in that motor somewhere. Maybe a different exhaust and a fuel controller would wake it up to proper numbers like at least 95HP and 110 ft. lbs of torque at the wheel on a dyno.

    Mike, Thanks for the clarification.

Well I was a bit surprised myself when I first saw a dynograph from some test runs on an Indian Chieftain. But a few weeks ago, in company with a buddy on a 2014 Twin Cooled Ultra, we did some roll on acceleration side-by-side drags on the 80 between Salt Lake City and the Bonneville Salt Flats. At both 70mph and 80 mph, whether in 5th or 6th gear the Indian easily beat the Twin Cooled bike. Go figure. Sometimes numbers produced on a dynamometer don’t tell the whole story, it seems.

I’ve tested the 2014 Indian 111’s in “stock” form, 6 different ones actually and come up with these advertised numbers. I’ve got data from 2 Super Flows and 2 Dyno Jet dynos to back it up. I fully understand the variations in Dyno’s, locations, test operators, etc…but I agree with you, numbers seem low. Without knowing more about the vehicle being tested, its hard to make educated judgements. Regardless, I’ve worked with S&S products for a long time and its good to see a A/C option available for the Indian. It offers a option with know quality construction and fitment.

    Doc,
The Ultra has a smaller motor and though spec’s may be similar depending which Ultra your on you are also giving away 30 kegs as well.
That is of course saying that you both are sporting the same athletic builds and of similar weight.

    Over 80 lb/ft from 1700-500 RPM. 100 lb/ft @ just 2300 RPM!
That’s what gets you moving. Have you seen a stock HD engine dyno?

So much of this is dependent on the actual Dyno being used as well, so that would be where I would start for answers then I would throw it on my dyno as a comparison as I know the parameters of my Dyno.

Glad to see and alternative because you sure can’t get the one Indian shows on their site or pretty much anything else for 6 plus months.

You have to remember that manufacturers usually rate engines at the flywheel rather than the rear wheel (big difference).
