Early this Wednesday morning, Polaris (NYSE:PII) roared ahead of third-quarter earnings estimates due in part to its reinvigorated Indian motorcycle line. Earnings per share minus items climbed 26% to $2.06 on an 18% rise in revenue to $1.3 billion.

Third Quarter Performance Summary (in thousands except per share data)
Bravo Polaris, Indian & Victory Motorcycles.
+28% from motorcycles versus same quarter last year, + 62% for 3 quarters in 2014 versus same 3 quarters of 2013. Not bad, not bad at all.
Looks like bikers love to have a choice…
Each time an Indian or Victory is sold, it must bothers Harley quite a bit.
Polaris always announces its financial results just 24 h after Harley. Is there anyone who knows why?
Is there really anyone who doesn’t know? 😉
Strong report. Q4 will include shipments of the new Victory and Indian models, plus Shipments of Slingshot. Yeah, I think it’s a car too, but it’s officially registered as a motorcycle so that’s what it’s sales will be recorded as. Going to be an interesting year.
More nails in Harley tires.
Stop picking on Harley. At last they give production numbers. Wonder why Polaris don’t? Ashamed?
Rodent. You don’t understand how business works. Polaris doesn’t have to give you a breakdown by model. Nothing to do with the consumers but with the competition. In their position, do you want to say to Harley and others what models sell most? Of course not. One day, they will…
Spot On Woody !!!!
Like Greeko, I tend to think that for every Cross Country/Roads,
Vision (Yes there are people who REALLY like that bike, believe it or not)
Chief, Vintage & Chieftain, H-D sweats just a little bit more.
“Uneasy lies the head upon which rests the crown” ……
Yawn…intersting if I was a broker or active in the stock market, but means nothing to me as a long time motorcyclist…
Production and model numbers are semi-public information that is available from bike registrations. There are third party companies that tabulate this info on a monthly basis by getting that info from each state. It is usually delayed a bit as sales in the SEC report are tabulated when sold to a dealer, and sales to the ultimate customer are taken from new state registrations. There is a delay, but these companies can gain much info from vin numbers and trends in registrations. Rest assured that they all know what the other is doing.
Yeah you guys, stop picking on Harley. Or else Rodent’s going to go tell his Mom!
Glad to see Polaris’s interest & investment in Indian continuing to pay off. Looking forward to seeing many more years of brand continuing to thrive.
Perhaps H-D should just stop posting detailed sales info/breakdowns since they have domestic competition now that chooses not to? % snapshots can look great, but the raw numbers tell the whole story. I chuckled a while back when I saw a TV ad for a car dealer that proudly proclaimed they were “America’s fastest growing Hyundai dealer” with sales up over 200% over last year. It was completely factual, I’m sure. It failed to mention the dealership had only been open a few months in 2013 since it was a brand new location. By % any newly opened shoe store should have sales increases far outstripping longtime ones 😉
i don,t see how many indians or victorys sold in that period,,,,,,they just mention motorcycles,,,,,
