Official launch will be spring 2015, but you see it here and I can give you a few details. First, a few words of caution from S&S Cycle VP of Product Development Scott Sjovall “This T143 engine fits in a stock frame, and starts really well, but it is really not for everybody! Frankly, it may scare the hell out of you if you don’t have experience with high performance engines. With this kind of power, you will definitely need a stronger clutch. I guess it boils down to this: It’s really a thinly disguised race motor. It’s noisier, has more personality, and you’re not going to get 100,000 miles on it…but it sure is fun!” Scott then added, “Be careful where you point it.”
Internally, S&S Cycle nicknamed it the “Big Shorty” But its official name is the T143 Motor, a Long Block engine of, 143 cubic inches. And it’s very bad: 162 horsepower and 151 ft-lb of torque. And it bolts into a stock 2008 and later bagger chassis with absolutely no frame modifications . The B3 heads were designed specifically for this engine, optimally locating the intake and exhaust ports while still providing the correct flow. The contour of the rocker boxes has been addressed to clear the frame. The T143 Long Block does not include a fuel system, but an intake kit is available that includes a special propriatary 70mm Throttle Hog throttle body with the special ports that mate up to the new S&S B3 cylinder heads and an S&S Stealth air cleaner.
It was 11 years ago that S&S introduced the T124 and it is still the go-to choice for upgrading your late model Harley-Davidson® motorcycle . It remains a great choice today, but the T143 is about to join the party and many will want to upgrade… S&S Cycle T143 Engine.

That’s really cool if those are rear wheel numbers If those are crank numbers…not so much.
Wow!
Sure, it will sell. But it’s not about number of units being sold. More about S&S showing its expertise and leadership.
The dyno chart specifically says (at the top) rear wheel hp & tq.
I’m wondering if this will require a chain drive conversion, or can the stock belt handle the torque?
Also, will the stock transmission handle it? — I blew second gear on a Wide Glide with only 120hp/tq.
And finally, will the stock motor mounts tame the vibration? — I would think this monster would be a real shaker.
Do you have one to fit a Dyna?
Doggonit, I KNEW I shouldn’t have sold that bagger chassis I had a year ago!
I’m wondering the same thing as HD Rider…will it bolt into my 08 Dyna chassis? That would be one wicked fast hot rod.
nothing beat inches,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Badass! Better warn the Indian Roadmaster, Victory Cross Country Tour, and Vision riders there’s a new King of the road motor in town!
I don’t often wish for things I don’t have or can’t afford but I gotta say I would love to put this bad boy in a 2015 Road Glide with a Baker trans and upgraded clutch. Maybe the AIM Variable Pressure Clutch listed in today’s Cyril Huze blog with the lighter pull. It would cost upwards of $50k but what a ride.
I would like to have some idea on how many miles one could expect to get out of this if it is just road ridden and not tracked.
WOW, it makes almost as much power as a stock VMax or Diavel. Seems like a lot of power if you’re used to a 70hp stock HD.
2300cc [143ci] in a Rocket III will produce a reliable 200hp+ with just cam, head work & pipe [Carpenter Racing in NJ]
I’d be interested in know just how many highway miles could be logged on it before needing a rebuild. Everyone always shows dyno sheets but never tests them for actual road miles. I would think that would be more important for a touring motorcycle.
From S&S website.
At double the HP of a stock motor the power of the T143 requires technical expertise for the installation and tuning along with an experienced rider. This is an ultra performance/race engine. Longevity, engine noise, vibration and throttle sensitivity have all been comprised to reach this level of performance while fitting in a stock chassis and as such is not suitable for every situation. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to consider the suitability for their application. Engine noise and damage from abuse is not covered under warranty.
Motor tour-de-force.
The heat that this creates will be an issue…oil coolers or that bigger oil tank would be must have items
Reyn yeah those motors make more power BUT look at what their reving up to !!
Bean’re touring with this motor, you would need to stop for fuel often!
PS thanks for all the video from the cannonball, was real nice to follow along each day.
Ooooooooo ……. FXR with this motor in!!!!! Give me the noise & vibration … Now you’re talkin my kinda ride …

This is a serious piece of kit. Others have ventured into this realm – but you know that S&S will do it properly.
As S&S themselves and others have noted – this is NOT for amateurs; not for shed-conversions and/or anything but seriously experienced riders.
Apart from a complete drive-train upgrade – clutch/primary, tranny (internals at least – if not a new box), chain (I would not risk a belt – it WILL drop you in the middle of nowhere – specifically if you are touring), upgraded oil coolers, even JIM’s (or alike) forced-air head-cooler (unless you are further north all the time), etc.
But I would go further – I would get a professional to strengthen the frame and the mountings – if you are serious about touring – as somebody said: TOUR DE FORCE.
Naturally your wherewithal will have to include regular service/re-builds.
If you do not have a 50k – 60k budget (excluding the re-build costs) then skip on it.
But if you do: do not waste it on a 30-40inch front-wheel cartoonish monstrosity – do the 145ci (PROPER) conversion, with matched front and rear wheel diameters (go for 17″, max 18″, if you have extra cash), then you will have the MUTHA of all long-haul-irons. One that will have you smiling from east coast to west coast – over and over.
Naturally you have to compare it to other MUTHA-MOTORS and there are only two I would consider:
1. With 60k, in the USA, I will get Rolling Thunder Frames to build me a decent touring frame; fit the (upgraded) S&S X-WEDGE 132 and you will have an Indian from another mother… This will be a more reliable motor, although you will be down on power at elevated revs, iow you will not get the top-speed (but in the US that may not be a major issue).
2. JIMS 135. It has been homologated in Europe (well sort of) and is becoming the standard for the crowd with money to blow. In its basic trim, it is slightly down on the T145 figures, but you can make the J135 do almost anything.
BTW – if it fits a touring frame then a pro will fit it to a Dyna without too much pain.
Finally – make sure you ride it with the best rubber on the market – ie NOT DUN(F)LOP!
143 inches…wow that’s a long motor.
I wonder how many CUBIC inches it displaces.
Very nice package.
Not so fast Boomer, a Vic motor with a Lloyds VM1 cams, supercharger and tuner will make 150 at the rear wheel. And you keep the same level of ride ability and reliability. You don’t even have to pull the motor to do the work.
Very true Vrat. Now that I’ve been schooled (did not see rear wheel at the top of the dyno) I still say this is cool. I have 130 rear wheel hp on a touring Vic. It’s cheap, reliable, and easy to ride. If you want a touring bike with serious tq and hp Victory is the answer. But I still dig this motor too.
Let’s not forget that the H-D 120R is a race motor requiring more servicing and with reduced engine longevity compared with stock 103 cubers. S&S is being totally honest up front in pointing out this limitation but you’d be nuts to put this in a touring bike just to go touring. This is for hot rodded baggers whose owners want either bragging rights or super hot performance. Or both! This engine delivers.
WHOO -HOOO !!!
S&S does it again !!!!
The disclaimer says it all
“If you’re looking to go 100,000 with an engine, this is NOT the one for you
but if you’re looking for really big Hp & stump pulling torque this could be the one for you !!!!
Yeah, it might be a little much to put in your touring chassis
But, Damn !! it sure would be a lot of fun while it lasted
And yes, I sure would like to see a “head to head’ with a hopped up Vic 106/113/121
from Lloyd’s and/or the Vic Shop
RE:
“… has more personality …”
Hmmmmm, certainly interesting….
But 3k miles away from home-base, “personality” isn’t exactly what i’m looking for.
-BTW-
is there an ANSI or ISO standard for “acceptable-touring-vibration”….???….. 🙂
-nicker-
About time…been hearing rumors for several years….enjoy ladies & gentleman…this will definitely wakeup your current machine or be the impetus for that build youve been planning in your head for a few years..with fire for a rear wheel/tire…
One option S&S left out is Kevlar underwear. ..Z
Just Wondering?
Matchup against a Triumph Rocket III Roadster . 2300 cc about 155 ft lbs of torque @ 2000 RPM
165 HP shaft, drive water cooled all for $15000. Bike included!
Do they still have the 145 cubic inch they made a few years ago? Now, that was a monster!
Dear Santa Claus,
I’ve been very good this year, so if you can fit this in your sleigh……:-)
already have one on the way.
Please make this clear to your customers as well—
This is a race motor, like any race motor, you will get a lot of vibration.
Plus there is a great deal of mechanical noise (valve train and piston noise).
There is low speed throttle sensitivity (the big intake and open exhaust make it tough to calibrate)
Fuel mileage is expected to be in the around 30-34 MPG
new for 2017 the S&S T462….. bleedin’ hell….
this is cool.
I’m also looking forward to another major engine announcement Mid next month.
Evo lutionary.
BAM! that just happened. S&S RULES…I’ll be getting one as soon as I can.
