Bill Introduced To Study The Effect Of Ethanol Blends On Vehicles Powertrain

Ethanol4Congressman James Sensenbrenner has once again introduced a bill that would call for the study of mid-level ethanol blends and their effect on internal combustion engines.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a waiver to the Clean Air Act that allowed for the sale of ethanol blends of up to 15 percent. The EPA never studied the effects of the high blend on the power train of any vehicle. They only studied tailpipe emissions. H.R. 21 calls for the study of the new, untested, higher blends, which is sorely needed. Some motorcycle manufacturers are voiding warranties if the 15 percent blend is used in the vehicle.

Beyond voiding a warranty, should you use the E15 blend in your motorcycle, you are violating federal law. According to final ruling, motorcycles are not included in the waiver, and therefore making it illegal to use the blend. The waiver for using the E15 blend is limited to light trucks and passenger cars. Specifically the rule states that the E15 blend can only be used in 2001 and newer light-duty passenger cars. The Motorcycle Riders Foundation urges you to call your Members of the House of Representatives and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 21. Now we need a bill …. to fund a study …. on the effects of Ethanol blends on automotive and motorcycle power trains ….. that science and engineering has already done …. both coming to the exact same conclusions ? [ a rare thing between the disciplines ]

That being …. Ethanol damages every aspect of the power train it comes in contact with … from the fuel tank … to the fuel lines … to the fuel injection/carb … and right on down to the cylinder walls and pistons

And err … did I also mention it decreases fuel mileage by some 20-35% depending on the vehicle ?

So you wanna know what this bill will really accomplish ? Put yet another delay on the facts ever reaching the general public and finally resolving the problems ethanol creates . Because …. everyone with power and influence is making money from ethanol and the problems it creates … Period !

What a stupid waste. Dump ethanol.

I’ve lost count of the fuel lines and carburetor floats I’ve seen destroyed by ethanol blends…

If you haven’t been to the corn belt recently it’s not an uncommon sight to be in the middle of miles of corn fields and the only other landmarks are the asphalt and some massive industrial complex to convert food to fuel.

The boom for building these refineries was a few years ago. They are built. Talk of killing this golden goose is fairy tale stuff.

This isn’t some mom and pop shop that is just going away because common sense and whining scare it off. It’s big energy and big agra. Even with overwhelming evidence to the contrary it’s here to stay. The only weapons you have to battle this demon are more evidence, more studies and more record keeping of the damage.

    Best we can hope for?

With enough evidence and enough legislative muscle, maybe, just maybe we can stop it from getting worse. Not likely, but maybe.

I applaud Jim Sensenbrenner. He understands the science and he’s willing to go toe to toe with big energy / big agra, two rare traits in a politician.

What else would you expect from a society that increasingly advances mediocrity over achievement. Certainly not leadership with any brains or backbone.

And so we end up with an administration that rejects the founding preincipals in favor of some distorted notion of politically correct fairness; Denies our need for domesticly produced energy, have us burn up food to curry favor of ignorant environmentalists and corporate cronies; And continues to pander to a mi-devil religion that would sacrifice us all to compensate for their own incompetence.

    TJ Martin- nailed it.

Let’s study the effects of lobbying by the ethanol industry, and how much money they’ve dumped into the pockets of these same politicians…

It’s insulting to watch Congress believe they can fool the public by creating this bogus study- it’s mearly pandering for votes, nothing more- and nothing will come as a result of this study, other than wasting more taxpayer money.

What a lot of people don’t understand, is that the EPA isn’t pushing for higher ethanol blends just because it want to. The Energy Policy Act of 2005 mandated the first requirement that renewable fuels be mixed into America’s gasoline supply, and the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act increased the quotas of the original mandate. The EPA is being forced – by law – to increase the amount of ethanol and bio fuel in the nations fuel supply!
The two acts need to be repealed. But government takes a very long time to back out of things. Look how long the 55mph National Speed Limit was around.

Let them test it in their own vehicles. Fuck the epa.
