the guy I worked for at AEE Choppers went to Daytona in the late 60’s and early 70’s. Then it was choppers. Now its a circus of posers and no choppers in sight. Pretty sad.

Can be sadly said for the whole scene. I switched to an Italian sport bike after 30 years, and not riding with grown men riding tricycles. Not to mention they couldn’t start their bike if both plug wires were off. I am waiting for Harley to start installing microwave in one saddlebag and fridge in the other !

Am interested in the shot with the purple forks with those teeny brake rotors. I see the brake line, but cannot see the calipers. What is that? May be too small for good braking but is curiously small. Cyril, can you shed any light on this? Thanks and Can y’all feel the spring in the air?!!!!!! (PS in 805, we are spoiled and ride all year)

    @ 07Ness….

switching from chops to an Italian sport bike? you might like what BTR Moto is doing then…they’ve been making big twin sportbikes for ~15 years. In the last 3 years they’ve built their own trans that allows them to shoehorn a big twin (Evo or TC) into a chassis of their own design. The chassis has the same wheelbase, rake, & trail of the liter sportbikes. The one in this pic is sub 400 lbs. which he’ll race in the AFM Open Twins class. 130 ft lbs of torque in that package will be something…

I keep hearing and reading/complaining about this scene or “back in the day”… Surgis/Daytona
Is the Born Free event … the shot in the arm for choppers?

  6. 6 Sarge Mar 12th, 2015 at 1:27 pm

Choppers, baggers, cafe racers… they all have their season(s). While those big-wheels are pushing the envelope of physics and taste, they won’t last forever. (Thank God) But Sturgis and Daytona will always be a showcase for the most extreme things out there. Love ’em or hate ’em, they make for interesting/controversial pictures on blogs just like this one. As long as we are all riding, the world is a better place for it.

@805 dude that bike was built by misfit industries .If you check out their website you are bound to see more pics .They built that bike for the biker build off show . Nearly Everything is hand made

A 20 year local/ native Floridian and seen BW morph with the trends over the years. There’s a little bit of something for every bike enthuist here. Seen a lot of bikes with disco lights, stupid baggers, posers, and very poor/ unsafe riding. That said, the racing goes on, Whillies (although smaller) had cool junk yesterday, you can still get down up at White Eagle, weather has been great and the fellowship will never fade. Thanks for the economic impac and good biker stimuli!!!
Is it me or has C been a bit Indian heavy is his posts???

@ colemanfu…A “bit indian heavy”? Looks like an indian/victory add.

Excellent photo montage of the motorcycle circus that all rallies have become. It is not good or bad–it is simply a culture that continues to evolve around a common spirit. And if “posers” have joined the band, why criticize them for their aspirations? perhaps you or others like you were their inspiration or role model. Enjoy the show–thanks for the overview Cyril!

Wouldn’t that Indian look good with red rims like the truck. Lookin’ good C.

Richards. Cyril works hard at giving us beautiful pictures and you BS? By the way, it’s an ad, not “add”.

I agree that the top picture his awesome showing Cyril in the background with his photographer. Great shot.

    Thanks HK,

I searched around and saw a pic on some other website, the calipers are built into the lower forks. Pretty rad idea. Again, not sure it will stop the X Wedge, but looks cool.

    Ricky, thanks for sharing,

805 dude – nothing new on the forks on the purple bike. They are off the shelf production items made by American Suspension
Those brakes have been around for about a decade.

The Pics are cool would like to ride down there someday. I always go to sturgis and going this year. What I love is all they choppers this, sport bikes that, big wheels suck, small wheels suck, gee I ride a sport bike not a tricycle ( p.s. poser they are called trikes ) it’s all bull sh**. Enjoy the bikes the people and live life and quit being so negative because your showing your the real poser cause those of us who really ride don’t care what you ride.
