Are wide rear tires dead? No. The difference between yesterday’s fat tire excesses and today is that they are now installed when “justified” by looks or purpose.
The 240 mm rear tire trend on a Sportster is well and alive (see soon my feature about a new Rick’s kit) And now RC components got the good idea to conceive a 240 mm wide tire kit with NO MODIFICATIONS for the very popular Indian Scout.
This RC Components New Wide Tire Kit is engineered to be an easy bolt-on to allow their 18″ x 8.5″ wheels and 240mm tire to be a perfect fit inside the factory swingarm. Supplied in this kit is all what you need for a complete makeover: is a 18×8.5” wheel (choose among 60 different designs), a 240mm tire, a 11” wide steel fender that is custom built with an internal support structure that bolts directly into the factory location, a stainless steel belt guard, a chrome tear drop tail light with license plate holder and all necessary hardware. And I have to acknowledge that a 240 mm Scout looks very, very good. Bikers with a Drag DNA are going to rush to install this kit to be released in a couple of weeks. Proudly made in the USA. Great kit price. MSRP $2495.00. For more information please call RC Components at 1-800-360-0915.
I am surprised, but it looks good.
That looks very nice.
I’m not really a fan of wide tires, but the fact that no cutting, welding, or any of the right side drive nonsense that one must do to a Softail for equal tire width is amazing. I think 180-200 is about as wide as necessary, but the 240 looks great on the Scout. Any wider is just stupid. Have you ever ridden one of the wide tire Softails? They corner like crap.
Good job RC Components!
All the custom Scouts I have seen until now look more or less the same. I guess a big rubber in the rear is going to give new ideas to custom builders. Drag Scout anyone?
With the wheel, fender, taillight included, not a bad deal. Don’t forget that you will have to paint the rear fender.
Now, we need somebody to tell us how it rides with a 240 mm tire. Will this Scout be in Daytona with RC Components?
Approved by Indian? Looks pretty good.
That does look pretty good, although we’re not getting a very good rear shot to see if it looks in proportion overall.
The rear fender they supply looks 100% better than factory though, big improvement right there.
I may buy a Scout this spring. Never thought doing this. But now this kit makes me think again.
WHY?????
The Polaris Scout is a (relatively) fast and nimble thing that lacks low-end torque – this will reduce it to a slog (through the twisties) and hamper the acceleration even further.
Rather spend energy (and money) on things that make it lighter. If it can shed ~55lb then it might be a contender for the title of INDIAN Scout…
If I were BST, Dymag, or Rotobox, I would make a package with nice five spoke carbon fiber wheels, a tank (with indented “Scout” script) and chopped fenders. There are already a selection of light-weight pipes. That plus an Antigravity battery and I am sure 50lb (+) is not far off.
Why pay $2500 to make your bike ride worse instead of better?
As above, I’d rather see someone come out with a kit to make the sides of the engine look less like a partially assembled Virago. Replacement rear fender looks nice, could use a matching front one even if ya never did the rear 😉
Got the word on this at the V-twin Expo
from my neighbors down the road….
Now, I’m Not a big rear tire fan !!
200 is plenty big enough for the rear & still be able to steer / lean,
anything bigger than that got kind of crazy (my opinion..)
having sold Titans & Big Dogs, back in the day.
But, if I had either type of Scout, I would be checking this out !!!
Gives a whole new look & dynamic to an already cool bike
