Indian Motorcycle To Launch A New Dark Model On May 11.

indianchieftaindarkhorseIt’s getting more and more difficult for any motorcycle manufacturer to hide what a new model launch will be all about. Indian is teasing “a new level of darkness” for a new model coming on May 11.

The California Air Resource Bpard (CARB) is listing a Chieftain Dark Horse, for sure the blacked out/minimum chrome version of the current Indian Chieftain.

Of course, we don’t know all details, but the same way Indian did it when it introduced the Chief Dark Horse – the dark version of the Chief Classic – the new model will probably be a black stripped down version of the popular Chieftain bagger offered at a lower price, thanks to money saved on chrome and on a few accessories.

Indian, like Harley-Davidson, knows very well that the “dark dress formula” continues to sell very well. Add a lower sticker price than the current Chieftain price of $22,999, and you get a winner.

Guess you could look at it two different ways. One, for such a young Motorcycle company they already have a great start on a diversified line up, and making new models with minor changes like paint is a very smart idea. Or I suppose you could say for a company that claims to have been building motorcycles for over a hundred years they should be able to do better than a blacked-out version of one of a small lineup of bikes. 😉

Got to agree with the comments so far. ‘Any color you like so long as it’s black’ seems to have come back around, doesn’t it? Personally, I’m getting bored with all these bikes now looking the same. Woody’s right tho, for any manufacturer, changing the color is a cheap way to bring a ‘new’ addition to the lineup.

Call me stupid. But I think a corporations goal is to make money for the shareholders …pretty sure they did a little market research…… The old saying has always rang true
“If they want junk sell em junk”

Conversation as we went by a HD dealership and all the bikes were outside in the sun. Comment came back that the bikes don’t glitter so much being black inside under the jewelry lights

If there is demand for it, which I believe there is, it’s a great idea. At this point it should be looked at as a tried and true formula, the blacked out lol is popular, cheaper, and it can potentially grab a demographic they weren’t able to reach before.

A black bike is not revolutionary, but this is Polaris; and they keep making all the right moves.
