The Race of Gentlemen is an automotive carnival that celebrates American racing heritage. Last weekend, gentlemen showcased their pre-war machines, cars and motorcycles at the water’s edge on the beach of Pismo (Grover) Beach, California. This was the inaugural race on the west coast. Non stop racing (every 30 minutes, except on Sunday because of bad weather), live Music, kids area, food and beer vendors .The Race Of The Gentlemen, founded by the Oilers, a Car Club. is held annually on the beaches of the Jersey shore. Next event is in Wildwood, NJ June 4-5, 2017. (photos @ J. Lepe)

Looks like a very cool event.
Always dreamed of racing on a beach…
Yeah what the heck . We’re already leaking all over the roads and polluting the air . Lets go dump a little oil and gasoline on the beaches as well with our leaky creaky classics that’d be better off left in the garage/museum/barn . Which is to say . This aint no race . They aint no gentlemen . And this sure as ( censored ) aint a good idea either . West or East coast .
That double amputee in the first picture sure can jump.
TJ Martin,
Really?
Go hug trees somewhere else. Like these vehicle did any damage to the Off Road Approved Area.
What a granola cruncher. I find it hard to believe you ride motorcycles.
This was one of the best events I have ever attended. These guys are the real deal … got to visit with a lot of them … They don’t believe they’re stuff belongs in a garage/museum/barn … they think it should be run. Run it and run it hard they did … this is bucket list stuff … go see it when it comes around again.

Is there vintage beach racing for those of us who have never been and will never be gentlemen? I love racing old bikes but have no desire to play dress up.lol
SYF – You find it hard to believe that a variety of people with a variety of beliefs and values taking part in an enormously popular world wide pastime have different beliefs than you? You sound dumb.
I traveled from NY to Pismo to race my 1946 Flathead, third TROG for us. Even with Mother Nature not cooperating, we had a great weekend. The tide was a pain, but the rain actually helped track conditions, it stayed tight all day. When the sun comes out, it dries up and gets real loose. Track was fast and we raced our butts off for 5 hours. We will be in Jersey every year they will have me, who knows if we can make Cali happen again.
TJ: The beach is open to vehicular traffic all year long, should we be excluded because we are capable enough to keep 70+ year old machines running? And if you think it’s not a race, come out to Wildwood in June and lets see if you can keep up. If you come, you will see a level camaraderie not seen at an event in may years. We are all Gentlemen (and Ladies). Stick to your Tuesday night shows and bring your lawn chair. We are racing.
Yeah! Go hug a tree. I guess you have an electric car and use only wind or solar power at home too.
Yeah, I pee old oil and gas in the yard on the trees and flowers.
I usually don’t comment on what other people write but the comments by TJ just quantifies him. Not a rider, wouldn’t even think of calling him a biker, To say it’s not racing and even worse they are not gentlemen, were you even there Mr. TJ? I doubt it very much, but yet here you are shooting off your uniformed opinions about a new event, people you don’t know, and motorcycles that have more class with their “leaking” cases than you will ever have in this lifetime. Go plug in your car, hide in the house, and last but not least keep your derogatory comment to yourself. Like my Dad said to me when my life choices were still being developed he said if you can’t say something nice, don’t say a thing at all. His language was alot more colorfull but you get my point. But then again, maybe you just don’t get it and probably never will
Big thumbs up that bikes are included, looks like a great time for all involved.
Go check these out, great race respecting the pre war stuff. No Prius in sight.
Steve “360” Cab… good humor!
