Morgan Motor First Electric 3-Wheeler Goes In Production

1morganev32morganev33morganev3After being in business for 107 years, UK Morgan Motor just started production of its first electric vehicle. The company is embracing the new technology but wants to keep its very unique image, a unique blend of charisma, craftsmanship and performance. For this purpose, the EV3 is reminiscent of the company’s first model, another 3-wheeler that debuted in 1909.

Weighing less than 500 kg, it has a range of 150 miles requiring a 4-hour charge. The EV3 is equipped with a 20 KWh Lithium Battery and a liquid cooled 46kW motor driving the rear wheel. The company is stating 0-62 mph in less than 9 seconds and a top speed in excess of 90 mph. Price should be around $68,000.

Morgan Motor plans to sell 50 EV3s per year, a significant commitment for a company building only 850 hand-built vehicles a year. This launch coincides with an announcement that the Morgan Motor Company will receive government funding towards a £6m consortium based project developing future hybrid and full EV Morgan vehicles.

Range is a little bit too low, but it’s a beautiful 3-wheeler.
