Carl Reese To Attempt Breaking The Motorcycle Endurance Record Of 2,023.50 Miles In 24 Hours

In 10 days, Carl Reese will try to break this motorcycle endurance record riding a BMW K1600GT. He is the current unofficial holder of the solo motorcycle “cannonball” record from LA to New York City in 38-hours and 49-minutes. The new solo motorcycle 24-hour distance record will be attempted on a 8.5 mile oval track with long straights and banked corners. Carl Reese will need to keep an average speed over 85 mph (137 km/h), fuel stops and tires change included. Such a continuous ride will requires exceptional physical endurance and mental strength.

A general contractor by trade, Carl states that his purpose is to bring awareness to the Motorcycle Relief Project, a veteran’s charity that raises money to take veterans that are suffering from PTSD out on motorcycle rides. The current record is held since 2013 by Matthew McKelvey, a South African who set the record at 2023.5 miles or 3,256.5 km in 24 hours. Carl will start his ride on February 25th. He will wear a catheter so he doesn’t have to stop for restroom breaks. He will fast the day before, so he can purge his body and don’t have to take a full restroom break. He will feed himself while riding, mostly with peanuts, salmon sandwiches on wheat bread, hard boiled eggs and dried cherries. For drinks, only water, organic apple juice and some coffee. The record attempt bike will be equipped with a GPS and on a live map on Carl Reese Website people will be able to click on an icon to see live his position and speed.

Good for him for being smart and responsible enough to do this on a closed course. Good luck! Hope you make it!

While I applaud him using a closed course for his run at the record, going around in circles for 24 hours straight has got to be boring as hell…even at 85mph plus. I guess that’s where the ‘Mental Toughness” part comes into play.

Best of luck on your endeavor Carl.
