BMW K75 Alpha Racer

Designed by Doruk Erdem as a Bonneville Salt Flats racer, it was built by Mark Atkinson. The donor bike was a BMW K75, a factory bike introduced in the United States in 1986 sporting a 3-cylinder engine with a balance shaft and shaft rear drive, and produced until 1995. Obviously, it now features an entirely different frame, a turbo, a reworked shifter, new steering and brakes and beautiful art-deco style fairing with BMW kidneys. Need to see it perform on the Salts.

Genuine customizing and craftsmanship verging on art at its finest : versus the plethora of ‘checkbook ‘ customs and cookie cutter Scrambler/Bobber/Cafe’s

To keep things basic, this motorcycle is “outstanding”!

It’s a beautiful piece of art. Craftsmanship and design are incredible.

The days of Burt Munro bypassing the safety rules because he came thousands of miles from another country are long behind us. It’s a shame they didn’t read the rule books for racing at any of the sanctioned Bonneville Salt events. It will never set a record (or even be allowed on the salt) in the state it’s in, it’s so far outside of the current safety rules. Read the rules, then build the bike. Your design is not worth someone getting hurt over.

Janos, wholly agree with what you claim… Dramatic Engineering with Flair ? 🙂 It looks as if it might actually work too (the drive shaft version, that is…) 🙂 🙂

All of those aerodynamic features and then the arms and the steering is out in the slipstream?

    Really?

Very pretty, but I fear it fails at Aerodynamics 101! Hint – tail fin!
