2017 Daytona Bike Week. Spike In Number Of Motorcycle Related Trauma Admissions.

A high number of intensive care patients were admitted during this year’s Bike Week, making it one of the most dangerous Bike Weeks that Daytona Beach has seen in years. During the 10-day event (March 8-19), 69 motorcycle related trauma patients were received by the only trauma hospital for Flagler and Volusia counties, the Halifax Health Medical Center. The second highest of trauma admissions was during Daytona Bike week 2016 with a number of 54.

Wonder how many were due to left turn on blinking yellow?

How about a total breakdown of deaths, arrests, etc. like they do for Sturgis, including attendance compared to previous years? The trauma headline really doesn’t give me much information.

Having been there and watched the idiots, BOTH cage and bike alike, no wonder there are so many accidents. And we bikers have to share the blame on those figures. This must be the beginner’s rally, too many trailers and learner permits!!

Once again I am reminded of what I was taught by some old riders back in 1960. Aside from telling me about cross winds and not grabbing your front brake on gravel they said that there are two rules that will keep you alive. 1) you must believe that everyone else on the road is out to kill you and drive accordingly taking nothing for granted. 2) Never think you know all there is to know about riding your bike, because when you get cocky that bike can, and will teach you how painfully wrong and expensive you were. Been riding since 1960 and those two rules kept me alive. Oh and btw this is not a political board so if you can’t find somewhere else to demonstrate your inability to accept democracy please disregard those two rules, the world will be a better place!

-Yes- Motorcycling does not suffer idiots lightly.
But politics DOES enter the equation in several ways:

-1- Progressive Leftists mantras like “i’m OK, Your OK” simply doesn’t apply..
-2- Proficiency as embodied by a capable, self sufficient individual are essential for survival.
-3- When you hit that slick spot in the off-ramp your on your own, “we are NOT “ll in it together”..
-4- And if you want to claim that you built your own bike, you’d need to have built it “all on your own”

That’s how the Real World works.

Regarding building your own bike! Saying that you built it can be interpreted is almost never accurate in that it implies that you personally forged the cases, flywheels Pistons etc. what it mean in reality is that you did most of the work. Very few people have all the equipment to build the bike completely, tool needed to true and balance the flywheels, a truing stand for the wire wheels, in most cases it means you did in fact bolt it together, did the wiring perhaps even painted it yourself, what it doesn’t mean is that you had most of the work done by others and your contribution amounted to signing a check or checks. As you can see there are many ways of saying you built it.

I used to attend Daytona religiously but haven’t been there in years. One primary reason is the number of alcohol fueled riders.

Another is the attitude that they really don’t want any riders there, in fact, they’d be happier if we stayed home and just sent them our wallets!

Trump couldn’t get the majority to vote for his health care bill just like he couldn’t get the majority to vote for him in November. He is a fraud, a huckster. And the large number of his (mostly under-educated) supporters proves that P.T. Barnum was right. He is an immature, thin-skinned blowhard who stands for nothing except promoting himself. He even got in bed with the Russians to benefit his own campaign. I predict his impeachment by the end of 2020

guys riding trailer queens that are badly engineered….wonder how much that accounts for this accident rate?

oh poor BD he didn’t get the candidate he wanted so the winner is of course the lesser candidate, hope you never get beat by a faster bike you will have to sell the one you were riding, shead ya bunch of loser tears and of course find fault with the bike or rider that beat you. You do realize that Hillary had soo much baggage, being married to a serial rapist and not being able to find her billing records for the Rose law firm until they mysteriously appeared in the most secure place in this country? You apparently have an overinflated ego thinking that everyone who doesn’t share your politics are fools but it would appear that it is you that is the fool, but you have three and a half years to ponder on how wrong you are. Oh and btw there are drunks on the road everywhere so for you I would suggest a nice safe little car that you can drive at times when there are no drunks on the road which is never!
