Fast Motorcycle News From The 77th Annual Sturgis Rally (Part 2)

Anti-Sex Trafficking Message Blankets Sturgis During The Rally. A gathering of hundreds of thousands of people from around the country is the perfect ground for an increased demand for buying sex. At the 2016 Sturgis rally, eight arrests were made during a sex trafficking sting by law enforcement. Each person faced charges of attempted enticement of a minor using the internet and other charges. Volunteers are on the ground at the event, connecting with rally-goers and handing out booklets with information about missing children and giving away lip balms wrapped in paper and listing trafficking hotline numbers.

Rally Shuttles Offered Between Sturgis And Deadwood. Prairie Hills Transit will offer safe-ride shuttle services between the two communities during evening events and venues, beginning on Monday, Aug. 9, and concluding Friday, Aug. 13. The shuttles will run hourly, with the first pick-up at 6:30 p.m. at Buffalo Chip Campground, and the last shuttle leaving Deadwood Gulch Convention Center at 1:30 a.m. The cost is $15 for a daily wristband, which will be available from the driver. No food or beverages are allowed on Prairie Hills Transit buses. For more information, call 642-6668, toll-free 1-877-673-3687, or go to www.prairiehillstransit.org.

Sturgis Rally Vendor Statistics – As of 8:00 a.m. August 7, the City of Sturgis has received 654 applications for Temporary Vending Permits and 649 have been issued. This number compares to 712 in 2016. This will likely be the final number. however applications have yet to be audited for missing and duplicated numbers.

Each Year The Rally Brings An Important Infusion Of Cash And…Of Counterfeit Money into the region’s economy. It’s not just the 50 and 100 bills, like everyone thinks it would be. There are a lot of fake 10s and 20s out there. For individuals receiving cash and not equipped like merchants and banks to check money, a strange texture feel is still very often the sign you have been passed a fake bill.

Sturgis Main Street Makeover Is Confusing Bikers About How To Park Their Bikes. But it’s considered by all a big cosmetic improvement for the city. The 3.5 million renovation between middle and 4th street began in 2016 and just got completed. The renovation was modeled after the Harley-Davidson Rally Point in downtown Sturgis, using the same color combinations, stone, decorative railings and so forth.

The bus is a great idea for those who want to drink and not ride. Sometimes folks have a gathering planned in Deadwood and a storm may move in. The storms are nasty and quite often result in baseball size hail. Some of the worst storms I’ve been in this country have been here (Black Hills). The bus can save lives. The bus is mostly for drinkers I would say. Great idea.

It really does make sense as riding drunk is a really bad decision!

It’s about time to install the ramps and the shark tank. You could charge each jumper $$$ and give them a T shirt.

Sturgis is what you make of it.
For me it’s a chance to catch up with many friends in the industry and out of it.
It was also a time this year to help some folks through some trauma in their lives. I find nothing negative about gatherings like this. It’s what we as human beings make of it. I love it.
