You can’t expect your employees to exceed the expectations of your customers if you don’t exceed the employees’ expectations of management. That’s the contract.”

You can’t expect your employees to exceed the expectations of your customers if you don’t exceed the employees’ expectations of management. That’s the contract.”
Howard Schultz, CEO Starbucks
That’s one of the dumbest statements I’ve ever read.
Woody…In that case, you just don’t “get it”. There is nothing dumb about this statement. Having spent 45 years in business, I can attest to the fact in it’s a profound, insightful observation despite it’s simplicity,
It’s a very intelligent thought by H. Schultz one of the best businessmen in the world. Sorry Woody’s that your low IQ doesn’t let you understand a very deep thought, one to apply in budiness.
That statement is way too simplistic. Many employees’ expectations are nowhere near realistic.
While I can agree with the statement my experience has been otherwise. peace
You can’t expect your MANUFACTURER to exceed the expectations of your customers if you don’t EVEN MEET THE CUSTOMERS expectations of A TRADITIONAL FIT PRODUCT.
WE’LL LOOK FOR ANOTHER MANUFACTURER OF LEVI-STRAUSS 501, SHRINK-TO-FIT, BUTTON-FLY JEANS, THE WAY THEY USED TO BE MADE.
That’s OUR contract.”
Very good statement. Lead by example if you want your employees to respect what you do and ask for. The best managers/bosses get it, the rest can’t figure out why there’s dissention in the ranks.
I think Mr. Schultz is correct, and he simultaneously explains why Starbucks sucks.
