Many Harley-Davidson owners with bikes using the electric throttle assembly as part of the fuel injection system (2008-up FL models), are afraid to install custom handlebars because of the modifications to be done to the right end of the bars.
Flanders, a company that has been producing quality handcrafted handlebars since 1945, gives you simple instructions to do it, or offers either 1″ or 1 1/4″ already notched bars ready to install on Harley Electra Glides, Street Glides, Tri Glides, Ultra Classic and Road Kings, Bagger Handlebars.
For The Do It Yourself: Cut off 1/2″ of tubing on the throttle end of the handlebar and install 3 notches as shown in pictures. The notches are 3/8″ x 1/4″ (front), 3/16″ x 1/4″ (top) and 3/8″ x 1/4″ (rear). The top notch is shown in both photos.
For Those Preferring To Order Electric Throttle Ready Custom Handlebars. Custom bars in 1″, go THERE. Custom bars in 1 1/4″, jump HERE.
In the Flanders website there is also very interesting instructions to know how to choose, measure and order your handlebars.
They are all made of high quality seamless cold drawn steel tubing. They’re polished, bent by the mandrel method thereby eliminating unsightly flat outer sections and then chrome plated or black powder coated to perfection.
For Handlebars measurement help go to this Flanders Handlebars Page.
I did this in 2009 on a set of chromed bars. The chrome has now flaked off under the throttle. I would only do it again on stainless. Or just buy a set .
