The very distinctive Boat Tail fender/seat/taillight combo rear section was produced by Harley-Davidson only in 1971 for its Super Glide and Sportster models.
Today itβs a highly sought after part and because Sportsters are trending again, several after-market vendors propose their own improved version.
This one comes from Japan and can be adapted to current Sportsters without any modification to the frame.
The fender section is unpainted fiberglass measuring 2 ft 6 5/16″ x 1 ft 1/64″ (77 x 30.5 cm) and sold with the integral round taillight and necessary hardware for installation. The seat pad section comes with the kit and can be ordered in 2 styles of leather checkering pattern. A creation by Bull Original and sold in Europe by W & W Cycles AG
It’ll be a component in some nice customs I’m sure, even if the seat looks like bubblewrap.
Too bad Sportsters don’t get the respect they deserve in North America…
That doesn’t look half bad…. . Way better than the original product. Needs a more stylish seat with proper padding though. It looks like a Roho cushion.
Sharkey is right, Sportsters are a very decent bike with a whole lot going for them. Acceleration, handling, look good, decent price, made in USA, and you can get a ton of aftermarket parts for them too.
For me it looked ugly then and ugly now
There was a reason in the early 70’s that people ditched those seats !
Still it is all in the eyes of the beholder.
The boat tail looks way better in real life than it ever does in photos.I’m glad someone is making them again.
Man, that’s a toughie for me. Really like it from some angles, not very much from others. Would love to see a few more shots of it mounted on the bike. The seat’s no big deal to me, easy to recover a seat on even a tiny budget.
Looks fantastic! Trust the Japanese to come up with something that looks good, they rule the custom bike scene now. Take a look at pictures from the Mooneyes show in Yokohama and learn
Sheridan, these Japs have just copied H-D’s old 1970’s boat tail design, that is not an original new design.
True but he is right about the incredible bikes at the Yokohama show.the show has consistently had cool stuff but the last few years have been full of talent, ingenuity and beauty.bike after bike.theres some American made cycles in the show too.we can still hang.
Gotta agree with Woody’s on this one.
The Crazy Kiwi has the big picture. ..Z
A bubblewrap seat?….. I think I like it though – would like to see the tank and bars on the bike in the pic
Looks cooler that the originals. Design of the rest of the will require special consideration or the whole thing will look naff.
To each their own
