In January, Mecum, the world’s largest seller of antique motorcycles. is going to auction Jerry Lee Lewis’1959 Harley-Davidson. Particularity. The enduring rebel of Rock’ n’ Roll has owned it continuously since 1959, a total of 55 years.
Sam Murtaugh, Mecum’s director of marketing, says that Lewis told him that Harley=Davidson gave away 2 motorcycles, the first for him. the second for Elvis Presley and that he poked fun at Elvis for having gotten the second. It was 2 years after Lewis became a star with his unique piano-driven song “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”, a number one hit on the pop, country and R&B charts in 1957. Mecum states that Lewis’ 59 Harley could fetch $1 million. Let’s see… The auction is set in Kissimmee, 1875 Silver Spur Lane Kissimmee, FL 34744 (3000 vehicles for sale from January 16 to 25).
A million? Sounds a stretch…be interesting to watch
I would say $350,000. Because it’s stock and belongs to Jerry Crazy Lewis.
RE:
“… Because it’s stock …”
What would be the reason a “stock 59 pan head” (with what looks like a not so stock disk break) should be worth a Mega-buck…… ???
I mean really , “the killer” wasn’t THAT big a deal.
What ya got here is either an indicator of true currency inflation or simply wishful thinking on someones part.
-nicker-
Umm yeah, “the Killer” was and is a VERY “big deal.” One of the pioneers of early rock ‘n’ roll… a musical giant. I don’t think the bike will bring $1 million, but it might bring nearly half that.
The Beatles , Little Richard and Elvis made ” Mecca-like ” pilgramages to Louisiana to see the true King and inventor of rock and roll. He was the deal.
Just lie the “Easyrider” bike / Peter Fonda debacle
If somebody wants to spend THEIR cash on it, more power to them !!!
I’m not buying this or Elvis’ bike !
