James Rice’s wife told him “I have a lot of old spoons but don’t want to throw them away. Do something creative with them” Jim being talented with his hands, and frustrated of not having enough time to build himself a custom chopper, got the idea to use all the extra spoons to create miniature motorcycles.
First, he learned how to work spoons doing some labels and tags. Then he created 3 prototype miniature motorcycles, making sure to damage the spoons as little as possible while highlighting some of the nicest handles. Spoons are bent and shaped without the use of heat or of a hammer.
Then, James went to show them in a Seattle art show, getting his first orders and now obliged to search new spoons from his friends, in thrift stores and yard sales. His latest creation is a 21” long bagger (bottom picture) for sale on Etsy for $3,899.99. Everlasting Spoonful Facebook Page.
Beautiful work, great look for a fireplace mantle or office bookshelf.
