Harley-Davidson Helmet Lock. No Keys Required.

hdlockbishdlockBefore the end of this week, the Daytona PD is going to tell us how many bikes were stolen during the 75th anniversary rally. I bet much less that the number of helmets that has changed heads without consent, and we will never know the number.

Helmet locks are not new, but the one offered by Harley-Davidson is small enough to fit into your pocket, but big enough to fit around most any handlebar or engine guard (1.5″/38mm max) with no keys required. Simply set your own 4-digit code,

It will protect your helmet from grab-and-go theft, and also your jacket or bag. Slip the carabineer through your helmet D-ring, and close the outward-opening lock. Aluminum and zinc alloy carabineer is covered with a tough rubber coating to protect the surrounding finishes. $24.95 at your local Harley Dealer or Harley Online Store.

    Just be warned that locks of this type can be opened in about thirty seconds. All you need is an aluminum can.

    18bravo – That sucks, I was looking at picking up a lock like this soon for a road trip this summer. Do you know anything else out there that works better?

    That sucks, now how am I supposed to get a new helmet each year if people start locking them up!

    I was using a ski lock 30 years ago for this purpose. Just as small and effective..

    Lock = $5.95
    Privilege of having Harley Davidson name on side of lock = $19.95

    Put a 50 cent “H.A” sticker on it and no one will ever steal it.

    JohnnySpeed – Unfortunately all a lock does is keep an honest person honest. Even a combination dial Master lock can defeated by the same aluminum can among a few different methods, most of which take less than a minute.
    A key type master lock with a cable is probably the best bet, although nothing is foolproof.
    I’m lucky – I don’t think anyone wants to steal any of my $60 helmets, especially after I’ve been sweating in them a while.

    My theory is if they can’t grab and walk they won’t bother stealing your stinky sweaty helmet with $300 worth of Bluetooth stuff inside.

    Good point. If someone wants to steal your helmet for the techno goodies in it, all they need is a seat belt cutter or an X-Acto blade.

    18bravo – Thanks for the heads up! There’s no techno goodies in my helmet, I just don’t wanna have to carry the thing around all the time or have it disappear when I’m 1000 miles from home. I’ll just run a cable lock and make sure not to wash the liner before I go.lol

    Yeah 18brave when they cut the D-ring then the helmet renders useless, but it also becomes useless for me as well. Bottom line Out of Sight out of Mind! Put in your Luggage or carry it with you till you find a Store or Shop that will let you leave it behind the Counter while you walk around. Crazy but they never mind and once you ask you can ask anytime and anywhere, but in Daytona. They Steal everything.
