Yes! It’s called “making your own luck”. Craft and patience pays-off by placing you in the right place at the right time, aka “luck”.

    Excellent one, Cyril.

No longer true. In today’s world if you spend your adult life working hard and doing a good job in hopes of getting ahead you’ll only get gut punched by dipshit politicians who think your constitutional rights to assembly, speech, and petitioning the government can be regulated to end collective bargaining and screw you out of the pay and benefits you earned with your hard work. Now the only luck hard workers get is bad luck.

    BobS,
you are not describing luck, or opportunity. You are describing willful, intentional acts from people that specifically aim to advantage, or disadvantage other people for exacting reasons.
There is no such thing as luck, which is the point alluded to in the quote.

As usual, much can be learned about people by what they post.

Exactly Dave. What I’m posting is that there was a day where if a man worked hard and did a good job he ‘got ahead’. Some may call that making his own luck, others may call it just rewards for hard work. My point is those days are over.

Disagree BobS after 40 years working in multiple fields, people who offer 110% usually make just rewards, others who just want to do their job, usually do alright, but the potential left behind is enormous. If you seem to be on a dead end road, change roads, simple as that, if you don’t you will suffer the consequences.
America is still the land of opportunity, but ya gotta hustle!!!

That’s the fairytale Highrider but try telling all the guys who worked in manufacturing plants that their jobs went away because they didn’t give 110%. Tell the coal miners the same thing. Tell the police officers, firemen, teachers, and road workers the reason “right to (not) work laws” busted their unions is because they didn’t give 110%. Missouri job growth out paced ALL of it’s right-to-work neighbors. So what did the new majority legislature do? Pass right-to-work. Iowa had a public employee union negotiation law put in place over 40 years ago (by a republican administration) that worked perfectly for over 40 years. What’s the new majority legislature doing there? Why scrapping it and infringing on citizen’s constitutional rights to assembly, speech, and petitioning the government of course.. Wisconsin…’nuff said. The fairy tale may have been true 40 years ago but I’m quite certain all those workers I just mentioned gave “110%”. The American dream is dead. If you want to get ahead today, hard work and dedication isn’t enough. You’re gonna have to screw somebody.

But that this ‘ fake ‘ little fairy tale posing as wisdom were true .

Yes hard work is the foundation for success and without it you’ll never succeed . But the fact is without a whole lot of luck , blessings what ever you chose to call it you aint going past the ” Tipping Point ” never mind succeed no matter how hard you work – how talented you are – or even how well funded you might of started out

So take this one and file it away in the propaganda/trash pile intended to feed the egos of those successful while keeping those that are not in a permeant state of frustration and guilt

I say that you have to work hard to succeed. But that isn’t the only factor. If you worked hard in an industry that is no longer profitable, you won’t benefit. You have to work hard at the right thing. If you just bitch and moan about the past, you won’t get anything but tears in your beer.

Lee Trevino – the amazing golfer, once said “The more I practice, the luckier I get”.

So says a guy who plays for Belichick & with Brady, arguably the best cheats in the league

What’s needed is more alcohol and hanging around “sports fans” watching T.V with your game jersey own. And some more alcohol. I don’t know anyone that’s really, really, successful that drinks alcohol daily. Not everyone can be successful, and alcohol-addiction thins-out the ranks. So DRINK UP! … and let other people get your kicks for you. Drink yourself into losing. Have All-American Beer, and then (6) more because your friends do and ALL BIKERS DRINK BUDWEISER…. don’t they? The media says so.
