I get this question all the time. “If you would ride a Harley every day, which one it would be?” 15 years ago, a black Fat Boy was my answer. Then nothing to my taste or very exciting during all these years. And now? Without hesitation the new V Rod called the Night Rod Special. It takes a few years for Harley-Davidson to catch up with some of the best trends launched by custom builders (wide rear tires, techno industrial black out macho look, pinstripes on wheels, etc) But when the Milwaukee factory does it, it does it right. The bike in black (actually there are 2 dual color schemes vivid black/black denim or black denim/vivid black) is a stunning machine to look at, and an exhilarating bike to ride. Like other VRSC-bikes, the Night Rod comes powered with the most powerful engine in Harley’s street bike range – the Porsche-developed 1130cc liquid-cooled V-twin. This pumps 79kW (107bhp) at 7950rpm, and 98Nm of torque at 6500 rpm. The Night Rod features a larger 5 gallon fuel tank Harley introduced last year in response to customer demand. With drag bars and new redesigned gauges, a 240 mm rear tire & a lowered suspension (the only way I want to go) putting the seat at 25.2” and the ground clearance at 4.2”, a great sound through chrome, straight-shot dual pipes; brushed mufflers with black end caps and black shields, the Night Rod is for me the most desirable “custom” factory bike.
