Awesome race, but did the Bugatti ever really have a chance. They were almost even at the turn or at least it looked that way on the video. The race back to the finish the car never really had a chance with the plane being able to accelerate with gravity on it’s side and a possible top speed nearly 10 times the speed of the car —— but thank GOD people still do crazy shit like this======Awesome.

Might have been a bit more interesting with one of those wild turbo Hayabusas running against the jet, eh?

This comes from a weekly programm on BBC, called TopGear.

TopGear is presented by Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, who are doiing their thing with a tipicaly English flair.
And yeah, they do from time to time some pretty crazy stuff !

Want to see and know more about it?

WOW! I briefly thought for a moment that the Bugatti might have taken it on the 1st mile, but I knew when that fighter was heading back down it was all over but the tears. GREAT RACE NONE THE LESS!

Now that was awesome! The car never had a chance on the return, unless of course the jet had to land to cross the start line…

Of course if you replaced the car w/ a top fuel dragster tuned for 1 mile instead of 1/4 mi, it wouldn’t be a contest. Problem would be turning it around but assuming you had a relatively quick way to do that, the dragster would blow the jet away. 350mph in 3.5 seconds in 1/4 mile both ways should give plenty of time to turn the 210″ wheel base bad by around and still have time for a coffee at the end!!

If you ran an American Drag Race Prepared Funny Car against the Jet it would be all car at the end.

The car would might had a decent chance of winning if the jet had to land to cross the finish. The jet had the advantage of being able to keep the throttle open all the way to the finish line instead of having to power down and be able to stop at the finish like the car did.

I meant to say.. “The car might have had a decent chance…”

The car didn’t have to stop. It could keep going all out too.

Awesome race. All due respect to Mr. Carlisle, the car did not have to power down since the race began some distance from the runway’s end. It would be an interesting race with a “Funny Car” drag racer outfitted to go a mile in lieu of one quarter mile

Interesting. Looked like they needed a different driver though.
Most American drivers get a quicker start from a traffic light than that guy got off the line! That turn around looked slow too. May not have mattered though.

Dear Janny – the driver of the Bugatti is British, not American. 🙂
