Are You Going To Daytona Or Orlando or Florida Bike Week?

Orlando Harley-Davidson just completed an interesting new quantitative study to know why bikers are coming to Florida for Bike Week from February 29th to March 9th. Popular belief is that people come to Bike Week to hang out on Main Street in Daytona. Results show that it is simply not the case. In fact, hanging out on Main Street is one of the least desired things to do, right up with paying for parking. According to a survey conducted among Central Florida motorcycle owners on January 24, 2008, nearly 70% of the respondents stated that riding with friends and family is why they come to Bike Week. Now more than ever before riders are enjoying all of the festivities in the entire region. This includes the newly created Olde Florida Ride, 125 miles of back roads with scenic views which will get you back to why you ride in the first place. Trade road hogs for pig farms and swap traffic for trees. And as we know, Orlando and especially Orlando Harley-Davidson is welcoming riders with open arms.  Want serious proof of how much they want you there? Ride in and you’ll receive lunch for FREE from 12 pm to4 pm (while supplies last,) from February 29th to March 9th. Ride-In Bike Show – It’s the Showdown in O-Town with cash prizes totaling $16,000 on Thursday, March 6th. Ten Days of daily FREE Concerts with the best in local and regional bands. Do you need other reasons to attend? Gear Head Vendors, Biker Fashion Shows from the Runway to the Roadway, FREE GAS: to be given away on March 1st and March 6th (register to win) and Exclusive Commemorative PIN RUN. I don’t believe the survey as on its best day Orlando sucks…I’d rather ride through Houston during rush hour than ride in Orlando… Main Street is a tourist rip-off but try to find a place to park a bike and you will se it is the most popular destination of bike week. It shouldn’t be, but it is.

The only thing that Main Street could do without are those stupid horses that budwieser drive down the street screwing up traffic and encuraging drunk driving and riding. Who paid off who for that deal. Don’t get me wrong the horses are great but the dumb nags don’t belong on Main Street. Also how cum the city closes Main Street for New Years Eve drunks and Marti Gras drunks and will not close the street for bikes like Sturgis and Galveston do?

All rallies are about being with friends, making new ones, laugh and ride. It doesn’t matter Orlando, Ormond or Daytona. We just want merchants to be fair with us for the money we leave on the table.

Since i live in Orlando let me count the reason’s i wouldn’t attend:
    1) parking is insufficient at dealership. If your the unlucky souls that can’t get into tiny parking lot you have to take a shuttle (or walk the 1/2 mile) to get to the facility.
    2) once you get to the dealership there is never enough seating or ability to get out of the weather (except to go inside the dealership),
    3) long lines and never enough food/beer vendors
    4) cramped space for attendees
    5) stupid drivers on I-4

    The reason’s i would attend:
    1) Close to home
    2) Good ride if coming from areas other than Orlando
    3) Money to be won if i bring a cool bike that wins!
    4) It’s a break from Daytona or other cities.
    5) Chance to see old friends

Hmmm, now i’ve really got a hard decision to make!

Is there an Orlando bike week? We are sure getting a lot of bikers here for Dayton. I think many visit the parks.
