When you are downtown Sturgis you are watched…by remote controlled video surveillance cameras installed on top of several light poles. Poll done by Rapid City Journal. “What you would have liked John McCain do while visiting the rally”. 1- Cruise down main street on a Harley 47%. 2- Do shots at Gunners 19%. 3- Bunjee jump at the Full Throttle 15%. 4- Get a tattoo 13%. 5- Be fitted for a web 6%. Since MacCain did none of the above, imagine the number of votes he didn’t get. Fewer people are on the streets for the Sturgis motorcycle rally, but the number of arrests and citations are up, according to law enforcement. I “love” the officers explanation: “That is because we can move more freely in traffic, where we encounter more drinking drivers.
”When the bars are less crowded, people drink more,” Sturgis Chief of Police Jim Bush said. “When it’s too packed, people stay in the campgrounds.” Steven Tyler, frontman of Aerosmith, arrived in town to promote Red Wing Motorcycles, a new company born in 2007 after he and a group of friends, including Mark Dirico and Stephen Talarico of AC Custom Motorcycles in New Hampshire, and Donny Wightman, wanted to create a new line of motorcycles. Yesterday they all rode around Sturgis. Of course, they are in town to network with US motorcycle dealers. Lehman Trikes headquartered in Spearfish is the exclusive supplier of the Harley Tri Glide, and the existing relationship will continue with Harley-Davidson for conversion services. They offer plant tours, but only during the rally. (Lehman also has relationships with Victory Motorcycle Company and produces the Suzuki C-50 and C-90 models). This Friday, temperatures up to 95 F. Thunderstorms this evening.

Sturgis = Cops City.
Cops…Kids…..Dogs…Tourists..Tshirt Vendors….Food Stands without visable prices=Sturgis
well Rodent, i chowed regularly at the Italian food stand kitty corner from the grease monkey lot on 8th & Lazelle. The heaping helping of pasta was $6.95, came with bread and really was quite killer. Additionally the BBQ from Perry’s rusty bucket of a smoker, on the grease monkey lot was stupendous…pricey at $9, but the portions were excellent….so i got no gripe
as a matter of fact, i think i have a pic of you stuffing one of those tasty sammy’s in your pie hole.
steveb, for someone of your status the lack of prices on foods stand didn’t bother you as I never saw you leave the safety of the Grease Monkey lot and venture out among the great unwashed.
Rodent – lol….status….yea, the old “japanese beetle trap” of modern man…..well my friend, insofar as staying in one location – i can only reference the old adage…”water seeks its own level” and for me that level worked perfectly, and as far as the great unwashed go….after 7+ days in SD, no one comes out smelling or looking like a Rose!!
and in all seriousness, even tho it may be hard to believe – it was good to see and spend time with you
B
Obviously, you two are friends!
Once again thanks for the up-dates! What is the story with one of the cop clubers shooting and killing an H.A. member in a bar? I have only heard a bit on this do you have any real news on it. Like where was this cop from? What club does he ride with? How did the whole thing get to the point of him pulling his gun out? I would love some real information on this if you can get it!
Thanks,
“G”
“we can move more freely in traffic, where we encounter more drinking drivers”… yes, but it is more cops + less civilians = s-loads of money to recover from the people that did not show up, to pay for all of the extra enforcement that they brought in from Colorado, Idaho, Wisconsin, and their neighboring states.
And they wonder why the attendance is down. Look at Daytona & Laughlin – same problem…
