Today Is Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony

Nothing to do with motorcycles, but even if you are not a sport addict, the Olympics opening ceremony is a must watch. The show starts at 8 pm local time (5 am PDT) at the Beijing National Stadium (The Bird’s Nest) of the People’s Republic Of China. Amazingly, the broadcast will not be live for free in the US (you will be able to see it taped on NBC at 7.30 PM EST). But it is live and free in almost all countries, even India! Explain to me!!! There will be 20,000 performers during a 3 1/2 h show highlighting China 5000-year history. Worth noting: the flag bearer for the entire US Olympic Team is Lopez Lomong. He was chosen by a vote of the individual team captains. A native of Sudan he was kidnapped as a child and spent 10 years in a refugee camp in Kenya. He got a chance to live with a foster family in central New-York State and attend college here in the US. He became a citizen 1 year ago and earned his Beijing ticket by finishing 3rd in the 1500 meters at the Olympics Trials last month in Eugene, OR. To watch Lopez Lomong carrying the US flag around the Bird’s Nest Stadium will remind us that in life there are so many things we can overcome. This post is dedicated to him.(China Human Rights is another story…)

I wonder how many ” Heads of State ” in attendance were actually “doubles” ( look a likes ) ?

What a strange thought, madpuppy. No doubles. No Head Of state would want to miss a free trip to watch the Olympic ceremony…Were you kidding?

It still amazes me that the Chinese account for 1/5 of the world’s population.

Check out the air quality shown on TV.
It makes LA look Tahiti in comparison.

We need to ship CARB over to China……. 🙂

After reading the most recent CARB post, I couldn’t agree more.
