Good wine is a prelude to love…even more so when the label features a beautiful pinup coming from the PlayBoy collection.
Try to forget about your mortgage, about the stock market and buy at least one bottle of this high end collector’s series wines. Only 550 bottles of each label are available and for the connoisseurs you have the choice between Money Road Cabernet Sauvignon, Roda Cirsiron,Tenuta Ponti Oreno and more…Playboy Wines.
I’m sure that if you are a wine drinker the stuff is good (I prefer Miller High Life myself), but it’s obvious that Playboy is trying to make a quick buck because Hef’s empire is starting to slip away from him. It is a shame cause playboy is as American as Chevy, H-D, baseball and apple pie, at least it was. It was a publication that reached from guys that lived in the city to servicemembers sent abroad, but now has lost it’s focus. Selling wine will not fix their woes. Hopefully they can fix what they need to and get back on top. To see them fall would be seeing a piece of America fall.
America without Playboy ……. hell that is just plain Un-American!
Over & Out,
Jeff
Hmmmmm ..??
Harry, how prescient:

Does this sound vaguely familiar ….???
Drop the Wine & Heff stuff and he could be talking about the American Biker.

heck, talking about slipping away!
how about harley davidson stock
Nicker, talk about opening up a can of worms; I actually was talking about Playboy Magazine itself (in regards to the subject above) but reading what you wrote and thinking about it, has a tendency to make you wonder. I hope you or anyone else thinks of me being derragotory or abrasive–it isn’t meant to be. I think it is a frank and honest observation, perhaps on both counts. If there are issues w/ the “American Biker” as you speak, where do we begin to fix it? My belief of the “American Biker” is someone who doesn’t fit in the mold of regular society but does his/her part to contribute to it (pay taxes, work, pull their weight in the world) and is someone who isn’t afraid to be independent in their words or their thoughts, someone that does crave real freedom and have real independence, someone that isn’t afraid to take a chances. Maybe that has diminshed. We could blame that on the yuppies that bought custom choppers and H-D’s cause it was fashionable, or the “wanna-be bad asses” that wanted to impress the females and try to look tough. My idea of a “real biker” was one that works for a living but wanted something to call his own, that could show a little of his personality. Someone that worked on his own bike on the weekends or late at night after work so he could hit the road on the weekend with his buds, that guy you would see at work with the wife and kids and the house, but would cut loose after work hauling ass down the road on that beast with the fancy paint and chrome that he had to work overtime for and you could hear him coming down the road from a few blocks away. Someone that might not have been rich or famous but you knew that he was real and was for real. Not a fake that wanted to be a bad-ass on the weekends so he could impress his ivy league friends on the weekends and then said poser could jump on the next bandwagon a month later. Maybe the American Bikers are still out there but we can’t see them cause of all of the other “bullshit bikers” that take up space and crave attention like a bunch of spoiled six year olds. The American Biker could be that guy that lives next door, the guy that helped you hang some drywall in your house or helped you haul some junk in his truck to the city dump so your wife would stop bitching at you about all of the crap laying around in your backyard. They are still around, we just have to look a lot harder.
Might be some grammatical errors on the post above, my apologies.
Spot on Harry………!

Harry,
That is exactly what is wrong with the industry today. couple that with a whole slew of half assed businessmen trying to cash in on a craze caused by sudden exposure on national television.
I feel for the hard working bike builder who does it out of passion for riding. When these tough times are over the true bikers will remain. The yuppies, wannabes and con artisis will be bankrupted.
i agree with ya boys on the loss of the american bikers (theyve all gone to my forum and ride sportbikes haha) but as far as the playboy goes….its called marketing. ALL successful companies will, at one point or another, release limited edition schwagg so as to 1) generate a bunch of extra income and 2) give their loyal customers something special to buy and hold onto which could potentially someday be worth a shitload of money! I know ZIPPO does it a lot, car companies do it, shit even Disney does it. So I wouldnt worry about the Playboy empire going down the tubes just yet…american bike scene. . . whole nother topic!
Did anyone watch 60 minutes last night? First of all it was the first I had ever heard fo CDS (credit default swaps). This is really what brought down the investment firms and banks on wall street. It just a side bet that you will or will not deafault on your home loan.Legalized gambling on wall street voted into action in 2000 by the senate. This is where all our money problems started and have not yet ended. I hope they can do something to rectify this. They also told about where all the 700 Billion TAX dollars are going- Pay raises for the bad bank employees and I got so mad I cant remeber the rest although there was a list. This is what has led to the downfall of our economy and are purchase power to buy new bikes whether they are stock or custom. And now We may be stupid enough elect someone for president because of weak promises to give back a palrty amount of money YES WE ARE SELLING OUT AMERICA for our wants and what we thing we NEED!!!!Besides that do we really know or want someone to Govern who has no experince in doing so!!!
Any good coach will tell ya, when the team is in a major slump, ya go back to the basics…..
So, for both the “industry” and the Country, may be we all need to get back to the basics.
For the Country that means revisiting the Constitution and the Federalist Papers.
For the industry it means re-establishing their customer base.
For the customer base that means figuring out what we expect from that industry.
So, now maybe it’s time for “the customer base” to get back to basics.
Did ya ever stop and think what constitutes “American biker basics”…..
Is yammering for “universal ABS” part of the deal…… ???
