World’s Fastest Woman Aims For 250 mph

Trillium Muir vividly remembers watching the 2005 film “The World’s Fastest Indian” and thinking to herself, as she watched the speed runs of Burt Munro, that she would like one day to try it. Less than a year later, she did. The Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah is the most famous location for speed runs in the world, but it’s not easy access for those living on the east coast of North America. More convenient is Maxton, N. C., which has a Second World War-era airport where one runway is used by the East Coast Timing Association, specifically set up for land-speed runs. Events are hosted there from April to October. In September 2006, Muir travelled to Maxton, and with the assistance and the Suzuki motorcycle of racer John Bullock. put together a 204.778-mph run to become the first woman to go over 200 mph at Maxton. In May 2007 she came back and with a run of 218.30461 mph became the fastest woman in the world. This past September, Muir once again returned to Maxton where she blasted down the measured mile at 239.11750 mph. Trillium is aware that there is a limit to how fast she can go. Her goal next year is to go 250 mph. If she achieves that, she says that she will climb off the bike and never make another land-speed record attempt. Trillium Muir is a correctional officer in a women’s minimum-security facility. As you can imagine she earned the respect from both her co-workers and inmates

May good old Burt’s Munro’s spirit live on in many new racers and their will to go fast. With record land speed attendence since the World’s Fastest Indian movie, one has to thank Roger Donaldson for his ontribution since he was the director of the movie. Thanks Burt, thanks Roger.
