A study by Trends and Strategic Insights, Integrated Media at NBCUniversal, ranks Harley-Davidson as the top brand for knowing how to create with women a positive buzz about its motorcycles. As you know, the traditionally male-associated Harley brand as made huge efforts to celebrate and attract women bikers. Women-only garage parties, female biker boot camps, a women riders month, many women charity rides, a portion of its website where women can interact with other female riders exchanging tips and advice on how to turn their riding dream into reality, etc. contributed to what is called in marketing a “positive brand conversation.”
Buzz used to be created by word of mouth, hopefully snowballing to help acquire new clients. But as the world got more connected everyday via internet, brand and product buzz spread much faster. It’s now easier to get the info you are looking for (you read this Blog), get opinion from and advice from other people (you read this Blog comments.) Congratulations to Harley-Davidson is succeeding at using all internet resources (including my site) to create this positive buzz to grow the number of female riders. And if you are curious to know which other brands rank the highest in their ability to speak to and convince women to buy their products, they are: CVS Pharmacy (best steady buzz) , Frito Lay Natural Snacks (best social media buzz), Mattel Barbie (best viral buzz), Kotex Feminine Care (best controversial buzz.) photography @ Harley Davidson
I admit that Harley does a great job at convincing women to ride. I noticed in Sturgis more than the usual number of women sitting on their display bikes. 50% men, 50% women on the road would be awesome…
Women power!
Will Harley now hire women salespeople?
I know how to speak to women to take them for a ride and Harley didn’t hire me.
Women shouldn´t do their extra parties and rides, that´s not natural ..they should just enter the common events and care bit by bit for the disappearence of that antiquated exhibit of women as mere gaping objects and appendage, time to get over that!
Somebody’s gotta buy them Sportsters. =)
Got one..I can kick off outright!
Cracks me up that a Sportster is considered a girl’s bike. I’ve seen more women riding Softails and Dynas than Sporty’s.
Riding a Harley, or any motorcycle, has nothing to do with the gender of the person controlling it. I’m glad women are finally discovering that. Most of us started our motorcycling experience riding behind someone else, and realized pretty quickly how much more fun it would be if we were the one who was steering, and in control. Keep going girls! There’s no end to the enjoyment, knowledge, and future of our sport. All of us guys, who are secure in our own identity, are here to support you, and love seeing you out there on the road!
Right on Harley Guy! But… I, for one am so glad Harley-Davidson has always been very supportive of women riders.
They are supportive in the USA, in France I would say the opposite. I have never heard of a single promotion aimed at women riders, Not one HD dealer near me has a single item of womens riding gear in stock, no female staff at all other than the owners wife doing the paperwork in a back room and I am made to feel as welcome as a cockroach in a salad when I have been in. Admittedly they are smaller dealers which tend to be run like a boys club.
I ride a big twin in spite of HD, not because of them.
My local Honda dealer is the exact opposite, then he gets 40% of his sales from women, usually buying the bigger bikes.
