Love the pic – I tried to get Mum, Dad, the 3 kids AND the pig on a scooter in Goa, but missed the pic (digital camera buttons still way too slow)

The pig was still alive and strapped to Dad’s chest, he was driving!!
Talk about fresh pork for dinner!!

No motorbike modifications allowed in foreign countries; but risking life & limb of your family is not a problem!

Each year we have a student art exhibition at the school where I teach. Last year a woman bought a number of ceramic pieces and was working to put them into a box to strap to her body and ride home on her scooter or motorcycle. In the interest of safety I insisted on driving it for her (small town), but realized along the way that I was probably wasting my time as she had been getting around that way all her live–I think she was from Brazil.

I travel all over the world in my job. I see this in china all the time. You will see a family of five going down the road on a 100cc bike with dad driving and kids hanging on any way they can. Safety is not a thought. Children, especially little girls are expendable. Sad.

And who says motorcycles don’t make great family vehicles?

I saw three, four people on small displacement bike every day when in Ecqador (spelling?). That was not unusual.

I too have seen this in India, not at all uncommon. In third world countries life is very cheap and safety is of little concern and as some others have observed women and female children are at the bottom of the heap so their lives are worth even less in those places. Very, Very sad indeed.

This was circulated over a year ago.

Not uncommon to see 4 or 5 on a bike anywhere in S.E. Asia.
Vietnam – Thailand – Cambodia – Malaysia – NOT Singapore!!
While helmets are required you will see Dad with one but the kids without !!!
Aslso – rarely does anybody use protective eyewear, especially the passengers..

Also lots of commodities transported .
Let me look for that series of photos.

Anyways – this one was unique even for me.

Photshopped, but funny. I seem to recall an article on bikes in Vietnam. Bikes (mopeds, really) were intentionally manufactured with a higher ratio on the chain drive so that they could lug stuff around.

    art,

    RE:
“….. Aslso – rarely does anybody use protective —-wear…”

    Reality check Dude.
If you were around in the early 1960 ya might remember there was no “protective gear” to speak of.
And i certainly don’t remember anyone wearing it.

Blasting down a CA freeway on a warm summer evening in a T-shirt, no drug could give- ya that feeling (nor could “protective gear”).

    You don’t like the risk…???
    OK then, take up Golf.
