Progressive Suspension 944 Series Shocks And New Frequency Sensing Technology For Harley Touring Models

Introduced only a few years ago, Progressive’s innovative 940 Series shocks became the go-to for Harley-Davidson touring riders looking to eat up big miles in bigger comfort. Now they tell us they’ve made them better with the addition of a new technology damper and updated the series to 944. What’s the difference? They say just about everything changed, beginning with a proprietary damper dubbed Frequency Sensing Technology for its unique ability to dynamically adjust damping as you ride.

FST (Frequency Sensing Technology) is described by their engineering team as like having two sets of shocks on your bike. One set to comfortably and efficiently smooth away those nasty exposed aggregate road surfaces, weather cracks and expansion joints, and a second set to handle the big jobs like drainage dips, speed bumps, bottoming control and cornering stability.

This patent pending technology features frequency sensitive damping circuits which enable the new 944 Series to deliver unsurpassed performance and comfort.

The one item that did not change from the previous generation is the combination of a progressive rate main spring with a flat wire compensator spring. This arrangement compresses under the weight of the bike, but readily extends when needed, to allow for full droop travel. The result is a bike with a 1” lowered height that rides better than the taller factory set up!

The new shocks feature all aluminum body, deflective disc valving, unique FST circuits and progressive rate springs. Like their predecessors, the 944 Series is preload adjustable by turning the top cap and can be easily set up for your weight and riding style. Available in standard and heavy duty spring rate and supported with a lifetime limited warranty. Contact your local Progressive Suspension dealer for more information. Progressive Suspension. Another great product from the Progressive team. Sold many of these new shocks with great response from every rider. Add the mono tube front and update ride 101% there is nothing better.

The HOT DEAL from Progressive would be to Kit these with one part number with 944 shocks and Mono Tubes. Customers want a kit for the total upgrade for their specific application from the factory. In my opinion this would be the HOT DEAL, Made in So-cal USA. Just doesn’t get any better.

Has Progressive settled their lawsuit with edelbrock. These 944’s have been on the books since early early 2012 and their sales haulted. Edelbrock designed and manufactured the valve bodies in the 940’s and I’m sure many other lines. Edelbrock charges Progressive for each valve and then again for each sale. Progressive thought it wise to get their own equipment, make their own valve, and cut out Edelbrock in the costs. Edelbrock sued them for breach of patent and more. This also held any sale of these 944s. I have not heard that they were released for sale yet.

Have to love crazy rumors. Edelbrock, did indeed create the technology used in our 440 and 940 series shocks. The parting was amicable and there are no lawyers involved.

That’s great news. I didn’t invent this rumor, it was told by a vendor.

What has been the delays in production? I had a buddy on back order for about 3+ months and still nothing. This was back in early 2012. Are the units being shipped?

    Gas Man,

We had a challenge with a manufacturer of one of the components. Got it sorted. Parts are shipping. You should try a set.

    Thanks! We appreciate the feedback.

So how would I know if I have the light or heavy springing on my new still in the box 944UT’s?
Before I install them I would want the lighter set, ride alone 95% and my geared up weight is 164lbs.
Road Glide Custom, 2011 it is also running a set of aftermarket wheels and tire sizes as well.
My front: 21″x 3.5″ and a 120/60 tire- Renegade Racine Wheel
My rear: 17″x6.25″ and a 200/55 tire- Renegade Racine Wheel

We’re just launching the standard version of the 944 (previously all were a heavier rate, as they were originally designed for the fully loaded Ultra).

    Standard rate part # 944-4002UT

    Heavy Duty part #944-4020UT

If you have the heavier rate and need it swapped, drop us a line, we’ll take care of you.
