Two cyclists are riding on Mulholland Highway in Southern California when a guy on a motorcycle comes around a blind curve. The motorcycle rider crashes into both cyclists.

He had plenty of more lean left in that bike to avoid them and it’s not like they were way inside the white line. Hope they are all okay.
Target fixation?
Idiot?
Complete idiot. No excuse
Another dumbass sport bike rider, riding over his ability
Target Fixation – It’s where you look at an obstacle rather than the path that would avoid it. It’s more common among new riders. He was focused on the road, looked up and saw the bike, and instead of immediately looking left and pointing his bike that way….. He kept looking at the biker and tried to “think” about what to do instead of just reacting.
@ BC – That’s a stupid comment. I know just as many dumbass newbies on Harley’s as I do on sports bikes (Which the SV650 in the video is hardly classified as).
Yup, he went right where he was looking…
RE:
“…he went right where he was looking…”
-No-
He went right where he was “steering”…. (not looking.)
It appears to be an unremarkable corner, look at how easily he was negotiating it .
Had he continued taking the corner as he was riding, nothing would have happened..
But take another look at what happens when he sees the bicycles.
He goes into a panic “avoidance strategy.”
He sits up just a bit (no big deal) but at the same time the bike steers to the outside of the corner.
Such a quick directional change is a function of rider handlebar-input.
The long and short of it is really very simple.
This dude (as so many others) really doesn’t know how motorcycles steer. and so in a panic situation he tries to point the handle bars where he wants the bike
to go.
.
i could be wrong, but i doubt it.
What ya see here is a text book example.

Gotta love the Santa Monica mountains for riding. They used to be in my backyard and a great escape ride every day. Gotta look out for the cyclists and the deer though!

Good observation.. On the highway or racing. One of the first things a riding instructor will teach you.
Pitiful, just plain incompetence. No excuse for driving like this None!
@BC…your comment is as bad (maybe worse) than that guy’s riding ability.
This looks a lot like the corner that Chuck Norris’ son (or something) low sided his custom, white HD bagger that was on this website.
Was he just another dumbass Harley rider riding over his ability?
Wow I really feel sorry for the Ducati !!! Just why in the hell do we spend millions of tax payer dollars to build bike trails and then these numbnuts are out on the highways when their bicycles or riders aren’t licensed to operate on highways!!
Yes maybe there was target fixation but maybe it wouldn’t be as bad if was a TRUCK !!!
SSDD;David
Not a Ducati.. A Suzuki SV…
Ok ,i didnt look closely enough my mistake !!

Look and your bike will follow. He paniced and fixated on the bicycle, that’s why he hit it.
Or maybe he doesn’t like lycra.
As much as I dislike Cali., they do know how to deal with and respect motorcycles. Look at how well they load up the m/c onto the flatbed and secure it upright. In Pennsylvania, they just throw a hook on it, drag it up on it’s side, and throw a strap over it.
On the bright side at least he was kind enough to cushion their fall. A good reason to wear your leathers kids. You never know when you might be protecting the other guy as well…….and his friend!
AT LEAST HE DIDN’T HIT AND RUN!
All kidding a side, If he wasn’t Loaded on Drugs or Alcohol then it was an Accident, just a plain old Accident. Faults and Issues is where the Sharks, figure all that out, with Music. Do Re Me!.
Posted on April 27 and nearly a million hits on YouTube with over 3000 comments. Rider being charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle resulting in injury. May also get charged with street racing (a felony in CA). Like it or not, the bicycles had the right of way, and could have legally been taking up the entire road, although as many have pointed out, they were hugging the right side. Speed limit around that curve was 30 mph.
From the camera angle that does not look like a blind curve. The rider SHOULD have seen the bicyclists. Some bicyclists can be dangerous. Not all. I was riding the Blue Ridge Parkway once and had 2 cyclist,at different times, dart out of there pack into my path. Not smart. peace
“Another dumb ass sport bike rider” sums this up perfectly; ….they all think they’re Rossi or Sheene with their silly Icon or Alpine branded riding gear and booties and overpowered machines built to look like and act like race bikes.
The cop actually helped load the bike on the flatbed. That would never happen here………
Looks like a dumb mistake, but hands up all you grey beard bikers who have never done anything dumb on a motorcycle. There but for the grace of God go all of us!
Does anyone but me wonder how there happened to be a camera trained on this rider befoe, during and after the “accident”?
the spectators / film crew were part of the distraction, the rider surely saw them ahead in the curve and was star struck a little too well, dark visor hides the eyes cut toward the camera til it’s too late. imho
I raised my hand.
@barney90
“…with their silly Icon or Alpine branded….”
That would be ‘Alpinestars’ clothing. I fell slowing from 50mph. to 30mph. as I entered a small town. The last thing I remember, just before the crash, was looking at my speedo & seeing 20mph. I still don’t remember what happened after that. I regained consciousness sitting in a ditch with a very concerned stranger keeping my balance for me. My shoulder is now bolted back together, 5 broken ribs, a collapsed lung, concussion ( my vision was blurred for months), seven months convalescence. The only reason I got transported in an ambulance and not a coroner’s van was my one-piece Alpinestars suit made the difference. You are free to wear what you like, don’t belittle my choice. I hope you never have the occasion to have wished you had been wearing the best protection you could afford.
That corner forces the bike to the outside of the turn, Just take a look at the other video,s on Youtube from this same guy. That photographer, and video guy are there for a reason. There are a lot of crashes in that corner on the weekend. Cars and bikes..That was one solid hit..Ouch..
