Genuine (or not so genuine) English made Wassell gas tanks in very poor shape sells for quite a few dollars on eBay (original has Wassell stamped in the tunnel) If you want a new vintage style gas tank with the classic Wassell shape to mount Frisco style, high and level with the frarme backbone, this one may be a good choice for your chopper project.
It comes pressure tested at production (although it’s always a good idea to re-test all gas tanks before bodywork and paint), with undrilled mounting tabs and 2 bungs for 2 1/4” NPT petcocks. Capacity is 2.3 gallon. Measurements are 14.5” long x 9” wide x 7.5” tall.(15.5” between mounting tabs). Tunnel is 2.375” wide X 1.125” deep. MSRP $189.00. At Throttle Addiction.
Gorgeous piece.
Nice.
Good looking tank at a good price. I remember back in the 1960’s when guys would “Frisco mount” their tanks on Sportster XLCH’s. You’d lose a little bit of capacity due to the angle of the tank. I saw a lot of paint jobs get ruined back in the day from gas spills.
Nice item, but the “retest before paint” caveat makes one wonder, do they pressure test or not? Raise the price ten bucks and make sure they are pressure tested well.
Where were they made?
