Heavy rain on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday turned the Bonneville Salts into a lake. After postponing the tech inspection of the 530+ motorcycles transported from all over the world to attempt land speed records, the SCTA was obliged to cancel the 2014 event. The right decision, but very sad news for all racers who worked so hard on their machines to participate to the 2014 Bonneville edition marking the 100th anniversary of racing on the Salt Flats. Hot Rods and cars will probably be in line at an extended “World Finals” in October, while motorcycles will have a chance to be back on the Salts at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials August 23rd to 28th. With nothing else to do many teams teams did photo shoots at the “beach” on the access road to the racing tracks. Motographer Horst Roesler is on location and did a few shots for me. The stunning beauty of Bonneville, even under water.

Shame. But you can’t fight mother nature.
I imagine the frustration for all racers…
I have lived out here in West Wendover,NV / Wendover,UT for over 18yrs. its the most rain i’ve seen here. it has been a rather cool summer this year here even with a blistering start of several 100 plus days but the monsoons are big this year. Its hard on the towns here also, now that Speed Week is canceled. The hotels and resturants gear up for the weeks events, so it hurts many aspects of the hollowed show of powersports in the world. I am a motorcycle rider of over 30 years and car fan so it is a disapointment to have to cancel the event. Heres to a great year in 2015
Wow.
On the “up-side”……
The TV & media pimps won’t want be getting involved.

I am setting my sights on the upcoming Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials (formerly BUB Speed Trials), and praying for wind & bright, hot, sun from now until then.
Hi everybody and heads up!
When I left Wendover Monday Afternoon for SLC – after several “media pimps” were photographing their asses off on Saturday/Sunday for the international competitors that unloaded for souvenir photos on that little patch of salt that remained beyond the access road – water level was DOWN to where we have been on Monday two years ago at BUB. (And they were racing on tuesday again). From I-80, the portion that could be seen of the “Long Course” or “International Course” was out of the water, so if the Flats are working as they should – and not too much additional downpoor hits the Salt, we gotta race next week.
HOWEVER, the “Media Pimps” will be there anyway, for even the flooded Bonneville Salt Flats offer great Photo opportunities (sometimes even better than the dry version 🙂 and we will serve all those who want to get images of the bikes in front of one of the most scenic racetracks one can imagine! Ask those who have been in the “flooding aftermath shootings” of 2012, 2013 or Valerie Thompson who just got some of her images done last monday. Be there and get the images of your lifetime.
PS: And every report update “live from Bonneville” is welcome by both the Racers and the Pimps!
Hey there Nicker, I make my living as a media pimp.
Hay Robert……
You have my condolences……. 🙂
