Bad Weather Forces Triumph To Postpone World Land Speed Record Attempt Until 2015

triumphcastrolDuring the past 2 weekends, more than 3 inches of rain accumulated on the Bonneville Salt Flats from storms. Not a suitable condition for a FIM World Land Speed Record attempt. The Triumph Castrol Rocket streamliner was scheduled to claim the title of ‘world’s fastest motorcycle’ but the pilot and crew will have to wait for year 2015.

“Of course we are disappointed, but the weather pattern and the track conditions are obviously beyond our control,” said Matt Sheahan, Chief Operating Officer for Triumph Motorcycles America. “Our team has made great progress in the past 13 months since first taking the Triumph Castrol Rocket to the Salt last August.

We now turn our efforts to making further refinements to the machine, and hope to get back on the Bonneville International Speedway in 2015.” Triumph will display the Triumph Castrol Rocket at the upcoming Barber Vintage Festival presented by Triumph Dealers of North America, October 10-12, at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama.

The rain , the rain . It did it again ! Making almost every event at the Salt this year a complete wipeout . Between the rains and the ongoing battle with those draining the basin I’m becoming concerned that racing at the Salt’s days are becoming very numbered

Time for government to protect Bonneville Salt Flats as a natural racetrack for speed records. Screw the idiots draining the land. Bonneville is at least as important if not more that the Spotted Owl.

In the 20’s when landspeed racing was occurring the salt was 3-4 feet thick.
These days we are lucky to have 1″ max. on the racecourse surface.

Hopefully the 2015 race season will bring on dry conditions with no wind.
Then we can see the Triumph steamliner, along with the EZ Hook (Sam Wheeler), Ack Attack (Rocky Robinson), and BUB#7 (Chris Carr) all push for the next plateau of 400 MPH!!
