Full Size Non-Rolling Plastic Motorcycle Kit. Why?

plastickitplastickitbisAs kids, many of us had fun with Airfix scale plastic model kits. And now a British firm is offering full-size plastic motorcycle kits. Yes. the actual size of a real motorcycle.

Peter Manning, the man behind the idea, claims that his kit can be assembled at home by 2 persons in 20 to 30 hours.

For now, only one model available, a Classic American Cruiser model, and soon a Triumph Bonneville, a Vespa scooter and a Manx Norton.

When you are done assembling the 180 vacuum-formed plastic parts, the final “motorcycle” will measure 93″ (2,35 m) long, 41” 2″ 1.0 m high) and 32.5″ (0.83 m) wide. When completed, what do you do with it? Almost nothing. At best you can (carefully) sit on it for family pictures… It will cost you US$806 (£525) per kit. My opinion? What is fun as a kid doesn’t necessarily please an adult. Instead, for this budget, buy a few custom parts for your bike. Full-Size Kits.

I’d hate to think how much one of these kits costs… Cool though, and good luck to him

Seems to me these provide a perfect opportunity to irritate annoying people.

If your shop overhead is high enough you could hoist one up there.
Even put a little oil in it so there’s an occasional drip.
With a little added patina, convince everyone it real
And piss off a whole bunch of wannabees by saying its a runner but not for sale……. 🙂

Hahahahh!!!! Great idea, nicker- a drip would be a nice effect.

Heck ya, unless the price is just ridiculous, I’ll hoist one in my man cave.

For those looking down on the thing- 1) celebrate how free markets work and watch it sell or fail, and 2) yeah, kinda tough to sneer at this but love the 38″ front spinner on your Road King…..

Just checked- it’s about $800- sold.

  16. 16 nicker Feb 20th, 2015 at 9:59 pm

    Wow $800…?

When i finish my shops i’ll get 3.
    (2 down stairs, 1 upstairs ………… 🙂

Free Bird Tacos in the Austin area has chopped H.D.’s with custom paint, lots of chrome every etc., a complete full sized bikes hanging from the ceilings held up by thin wire.. In all respects a “Real Bike” to the customers that don’t have any idea how much a real bike weights. I know the builder, he is a very respected custom bike and car builder. I was in his shop when he was building one, it has a Styrofoam engine and trans, of course there is no primary chain or anything else for that matter that has any weight, ridged frames made out of thin wall tubing, with sportster tanks, horseshoe oil bags, custon seats, thin wall tubing for the front end with no guts, there are real parts as well-trees tires rims, fenders of plastic -totally fake, but they sure look real. More “real” than this plastic toy.
