How to properly mount your Sportster gas tank Frisco style without metal fabrication involved and no cost involved for a new paint job? Simply with a low cost bolt-on gas tank lift. Well engineered, it only requires that you remove your tank from the factory hardware, slide the Frisco bracket in place, then re-bolt your tank using the original hardware and the additional one provided.

Use this to reduce the mileage per tank of gas from maybe 100 miles down to perhaps 75, unless you plan to get serious and relocate your petcock to the rear of the tank, too.
Maybe some folks like stopping for gas every hour or so. Maybe if you’re riding a Sportster, you have to?.
But it looks cool and that’s what counts, and it goes with that extended front end that improves the handling so much…
ummm, B.D., you forgot “what about relocation of the filler neck?” drop possible mileage to 60mph, lol, the “frisco kit” should include, (LOL), said bracket, CAM-style filler bung with cam style cap, and a new petcock bung….oh, wait, dam…New Sporty’s fuels injected….lololololol…..what does it mater, wow.

Exactly…!!!
If your able to do any “relocating”, why not do a good job of it and get rid of the tunnel at the same time.
Better yet, build a decent looking tank & scooter from scratch.
Lots of us tried the “tank on top of frame” look.
In the end it didn’t “look” all that good and certainly didn’t function worth a damn.
Moreover, it hasn’t gotten any better with time.

I did 2.5 inch lift to the front of the tank on my Deluxe with the back staying in the stock location. When my low fuel indicator comes on I’ve used 3.5 gallons of gas instead of the 4.5 gallons used with the tank in the stock location. So, I know that I still have a gallon and a half of gas and I’m good for another 65 miles before I think about getting gas. I average about 34 mpg. I’ve tested it and I still get a good 4.5 gallons of gas from my 5 gallon tank and I’ve never run out of gas.
Why do it? Well, the tank now flows better on the backbone, blends in with the seat better and follow the same angle as the swingarm. It also increased airflow to the front jug. Now I installed the oil cooler at the same time that I installed the lift so I couldn’t say but my oil temp averages about 10 degrees less now then it did on a comparable day (temp/ride length.)
As for this frisco tank, I’m sure the mount angle in the front is higher than stock as it relates to the new rear mount angle but I’m sure the person who wants to do it is doing so because they like the look and are willing to accept the drawbacks of stopping at a gas station more often and hearing how cool their bike looks by several cagers getting gas (and the occasional biker who doesn’t keep his wrench shoved up his uptight a..). But then again, no one who frequents this blog would ever add/subtract/modify something purely because they like the way it looks. That would be stupid… we only make changes if they improve function and not because we just think it looks cool.
