Jesse James Copper Chopper

JJcopper1JJcopper2JJcopper2bisIn Sturgis, one of my favorite custom bikes and appropriately one deserving (literally) the red carpet treatment is this copper chopper by Jesse James.

A built-from-the-ground up custom motorcycle that I would have liked to feature with pictures shot in studio (to not alter the awesome bodywork copper reflections with those of parasite objects around it.)

Still, you can all appreciate the awesome metal massaging, the flawless lines and the multitude of beautiful fabrication details to the smallest intricate brackets.

Unmistakably West Coast Choppers style. The art of today’s chopper at its best. Nothing to add. Enjoy…

The fab is superb. How do you keep the copper shining? Clearing it?

    How much?

Clean crisp lines. I like the use of the desert sand color on the covers and oil tank; or is that Duracoat or something similar commonly found on firearms?

My favorite builds are the ones that can be hopped on and ridden for at least a 100 miles – like this one. Doubt my back could handle that rigid frame and seat these days though. 😉

That is a very cool motherfucker bike. I like it. Thanks Jesse you are the best in this job.

The front fender brackets are going to vibrate – and might screw-tear a new hole by not having a bracket that spans over the top. This was a problem with aluminum fenders (Bates) until the holes were provided rubber grommets to isolate the vibration, in 1959.
99% of custom machines have straight pipes which seems like….sorta unfinished. Mufflers & custom baffles are a separate world of art that only a few are not afraid of entering. There should be a custom muffler industry created where you can have any muffler made that you can think of, to fit any metal horse being created.
If you can’t ride ’em…. what good are they? To look at? Throttle therapy is under-valued.

The bike .. is stunning and I love it . Simple , classy and functional . JJ’s ongoing efforts to self destruct .. sticking his nose in where it doesn’t belong and refusing to act his age instead of his boot size regardless of the consequences though ? Not so much

In other words ; Quit playing with the [ assault ] guns and the pretense of a bad boy image Jesse and start focusing on that brain of yours and all the history , knowledge and skills it has within before you wind up coming to the same sort of end as your storied namesake did .

    Cause in reality all you really can say that matters is ;

There’s probably a steel bracket underneith the fender connecting the two braces stiffening the assembly and spreading the stress load. It’s a custom bike for God’s sake.

@TJ – what are your deep thoughts on people who make scathing judgments on public forums while hiding their own identity?

  19. 19 J Kelly Aug 10th, 2015 at 1:17 pm

A rarity that someone attempts to do a build, w/o color. The copper tone reflects every babe in the sun, so to speak. Don’t know how some folks can be so critical of the sweeping image with the pronounced sturdiness of the frame, as well as the front end extension. The very definition of “ride on brother”.

TJ Martin aka Terence Tori, Once a bell end always a bell end. Thought there was some hope for you.
Who the hell are you to tell JJ or anyone what to do. Looks like Two Joints is back!!

  21. 21 SIGFREED Aug 10th, 2015 at 2:01 pm

The copper (which is probably rather brass) thing has been done to death, plus I am not a dedicated follower of the JJ fashion (a bit tacky like OCC).., BUT, this is actually not bad.

It looks like a Twin Cam motor, in fact, looks like a TC balanced one – I like that (if so).

The treatment of the (EMD) covers is also cool – ‘fresh’ that is. Also like (what appears to be) the LED headlight (something that should be done by more custom builders). I cannot quite figure out what is happening around the front fork legs – but it looks interesting nonetheless.

Fact is the dude can work with metal; I just sometimes think he could go from great to brilliant, if some other East Coast influences would rather rub off, eg like Keino, or Paul Cox.

‘Ginsu’ was more my kind of thing.

    I believe it.

    Just Bitchin!
Nice clean lines, not too much, just right!

Outstanding looking bike, JJ at his best. I never get tired of seeing him use copper, and the color treatment on those EMD covers is way cool.

A good book to really gain a true understanding of this bike is “Chopper, the untold story”. This is not a chopper or a SPCN. This is a handmade longbike. A mention of the lower legs are from the peak LBC shop, mid 2000’s. Love it or hate it, there is no argument very fe can execute at this level.

I bet you Kurt drives a Honda baffles on a custom bike give me a break especially at Jesse James chopper

  29. 29 zipper Aug 11th, 2015 at 2:33 pm

Chopper not. Steel fender brackets? Back breaker yes. A picture of JJ. with an assault rifle does a lot for the gun and motorcycle industry. SOSDD. .. Z

    RE:
    “…This is a handmade longbike…”

As opposed to what….. an “OEM made short bike.”
    Who invents this stuff…… ???
Do yourself a favor and stop repeating clap-trap.

Oh ya…. Finland is certainly the “authority” on all things custom motorcycling….. for-sure…..
