The famous Dixie was similar to a modern day Overstock.com, buying all the major manufacturer closeouts from 1940 until the 2000’s. Background: Dixie was founded in the 1940’s as a major distributor of closeout motorcycle & manufacturer parts for American, European and Japanese motorcycles. Purchasing companies in bulk and enormous overstocks direct from manufactures and banks, they amassed one of the largest inventories of motorcycle parts in the world, which they sold through a vast network of dealers and customers across the world in the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and beyond. The current inventory value is estimated at over $25million at catalog prices. Dixie was owned by Harry Denune, who passed away just over two years ago at the age of 90. One of the first things Harry did was purchase the entire stock of Harley-Davidson spare parts from the U.S. Army surplus after WWII ended, which is still on the Dixie inventory. “He would go just about anywhere in the ‘60’s to… buy huge quantities of parts from Europe and Japan. He was a master distributor very early on and everybody in the business knew it,” said Ted Doering of V-Twin Manufacturing.
The current company is for sale in bulk with all inventory, equipment, intellectual property and customer lists. The inventory is estimated at over $25 million at Wholesale Catalog prices (which are typically half of eBay prices). Dixie currently operates out of two facilities in Ohio and one in Florida, with a total footprint of nearly 600,000 sq ft.

I hope someone with deep pockets buys this and makes the parts available (at reasonable prices) to those who can use them. It sounds like a gold mine in hard to get original parts.
I bought from Dixie for 35+ years, and went to their original warehouse a few times to purchase truck loads of H-D parts which I in turn sold through our motorcycle shop. Harry Denune was a great guy, and every time I called for an order I would ask Helen how he was doing. Well into his 80’s he would still drive to Florida approximately once a month to his other warehouse and seeing how thing were going. During one of my trips to Ohio their elevator was broken and orders which were boxed up above the ground floor carried up and down the stairs. Everything I bought that day we carried down the stairs too. Harry who at the time was in his late 70’s or early 80’s kept asking me if I needing to stop and rest. Even though I was totally winded my stupid pride just couldn’t tell this nice man who was probably 30 years older than me that I was pooped. 🙂 Dixie’s prices on certain engine parts were the cheapest in the industry. I miss Harry Denune, his personality, and his business. God Speed to one of the great originals.
